The only jobs the jobcentre forced me to apply for were jobs that were more than 20 miles away, and since I don't drive, why the fuck would I want any of them? Why not pop into a few businesses one day and enquire about vacancies?
There is a lot to be said for starting at the bottom and working your way up, if you have the skill and drive you will climb the ladder rapidly.
