you mean mo and others in the running
or maybe the brits" that won cycling gold
or how about the great british football sides that have no actual brits
or the mational english side in football, where their must successful team of the 80s and 90s were full of players not actually even born in britain

I think it depends on the circumstances. One of the Ethiopians running for Holland was a refugee and had lived there since she was a child. But other countries are deliberately targeting Ethiopian and Kenyan distance runners which makes a mockery of the European Championships. Aregawi was competing for Ethiopia in the London Olympics and now she's "Swedish".

Qatar, Bahrain and Turkey tend to "buy" a lot of athletes because they can't produce any of their own.

As for Farah, he moved to Britain at the age of 8. His father is British and was born in London himself.

Farah's formative years were spent in the UK, and I severely doubt he did any distance running in Somalia or Djibouti as 7 year olds don't run the 5 or 10k. So he started his athletics career at school here and was supported by lottery funding, etc. I can't see why he would run for Somalia (where he hardly spent any time) or Djibouti (where he was waiting to join his dad in London - his parents had met on holiday which is why he was born in Somalia). I think he classes as British.

To be fair, Gaz, the English national team of the 80s and 90s (and now) hardly had any foreigners in it.

From the 1986 World Cup squad:

Terry Butcher was born in Singapore but from British parentage and spent almost his entire life in the UK (he moved here at the age of two). He's as British as I am, except for an accident of birth. Singapore wasn't yet independent from Britain at the time of his birth either, so such things were common.

John Barnes lived in Jamaica until he was 12, so that's one you could class as "foreign", but it isn't as if the English FA bribed him to move here to improve their football team. His family just emigrated for economic reasons like many others from the Caribbean.

From the 1990 World Cup squad:

As well as the two players mentioned above, Tony Dorigo. Now he was definitely foreign born, and had no real link to England other than the fact he played here. He is the only player who had no real right to play for England.

So out of 34 players who were picked for 1986 and/or 1990, 32 were British (31 British born), one was questionable (Barnes) and only one was completely foreign (Dorigo).

You're right about the cyclists though, and you could have mentioned the cricketers who hail from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and even Ireland.

fuck the cripples and spastics, only there for political correctness
Same with women, lets be honest no one gives a flying fuck about cripples, spastics and women in sports

Golf is for wankers, boxing is corrupt footballers are preening primadonnas who need a kick in the hole, lewis hamilton is a cunt, and the toffs sports dont matter to the ordinary guy.
in terms of individual performances, stamina training and showmanship it has to be carl froch, even if boxing is corrupt.....best of a woeful lot
