Re: 2024 WDF Calendar
Tunisia Open looks like it was cancelled. Loads of NZ events need to be added, and a couple of USA events

WDF African Cup didn't happen at all then. That was quietly removed

Re: 2024 WDF Calendar
Are the regional cups just national associations putting money in to put them on? I know Europe Cup is just usually the one national association.

Re: 2024 WDF Calendar
Was just wondering if only the African associations would be funding it. Can't see them having much money. To be fair WDF themselves not exactly doing well at the moment.oche balboa wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 3:00 pmThey are run by the WDF as wellIndyCarDavid wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 2:52 pm Are the regional cups just national associations putting money in to put them on? I agree. WDF are not serving the global game well. If it can't be run don't put it in the calendarIndyCarDavid wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 3:04 pmWas just wondering if only the African associations would be funding it. Can't see them having much money. Re: 2024 WDF Calendar
To be honest, WDF must be really struggling. Can't see many income generators for them at the moment. At least Lakeside tickets were quicker on sale this time, and they'll be making the usual member fees, but apart from that it's not looking great.oche balboa wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 3:05 pmI agree. Hopefully like you said we might hear about the Masters soon.

Masters announced for October, at least it's a start I suppose. Wonder if it's going to be the same venue as last time?

Re: 2024 WDF Calendar
The WDF is doing ok, considering the challenges it's got as a members-led governing body first and foremost, with no track record of promoting championships (the BDO used to do it for them), and basically having to start from scratch in the middle of a pandemic.
It's weakness is in Britain and Western Europe, where the national bodies have been squeezed by competitors, and in some cases got too big for their boots. But, excluding those two regions and Canada, prize money is growing in all the other regions, as is the number of ranking events. It has maintained Lakeside, and is clearly trying to preserve the World Masters. Entry numbers are still rising, although probably still behind pre-COVID levels in some countries.
They already have 100 youth ranking or international representative tournaments in the calendar for this year, so I don't think they're failing on that side.
But they are only as strong as their member countries, and from a British viewpoint it doesn't look that great. And I can't see TV coverage getting any easier to be honest.
Great that the World Masters is on, let's hope they revert to the original format.
