4 TV 9 darters by 2004 and only two of them were live! Many many since. Game has come so far. Yes its on different boards, but the boards Phil and Shaun played on were better than Paul and Lowe's
More TV coverage too.

In 2004, there were only 7 TV events between the PDC and BDO IIRC. (Lakeside, PDC Worlds, UK Open, Desert Classic, Matchplay, Masters, Grand Prix)

In 2024, there will probably be 12 between the PDC and WDF. And that's not accounting for the individual PL fixtures or WS support events. Neither the expanded fields in both versions of the World Championship equating to more games. Nor the Seniors events.

Funnily enough, I remember seeing Taylor's first TV 9 darter (2002 Matchplay), but I have zero memory of seeing his second (UK Open 2004). I'd pretty much forgotten about it until you posted that video.

Mad thing is, MVG never bypassed Phil in head to head wins. I think Phil's ahead by about ten wins. Only guy ever to be the winner head to head is Rob Cross who Taylor played exactly once. Beyond that Waites and somebody else from the BDO are tied with him.

Nobody who ever played Phil in a significant number of games ever came out with more wins against him. Longevity.

Cadby was also even with him IIRC. But again, they only played one another a handful of times.

Harrington had a very impressive 7-9 record against him.

This is one of two bull shots I hate. How that match dart fell out,I don't know.

The other was the one Dean Winstanley hit to beat Ando at the Matchplay. This one was a topic of conversation when I ran into Deano in a darts pub in Lanzarote last October. His take on both that bull and his 9 darter at Ally Pally was well worth listening to.

As Hogan had a better WDF/BDO career than Anderson, it could be argued he’s the better player. Never having played much of the exhibition side of the game I suppose we’ll never know.
