Re: Jose De Sousa
About seeing 'unusual' players win titles and go on deep runs behind closed doors, I do wonder how much of a factor that was, because we've seen some relative surprises since we've opened up again, and players like Dimi and Dirk have continued to have success in front of the cameras in front of crowds. I suppose you could ask how much of a confidence boost those players received and whether they would stayed performed at that sort of level had they not done what they did behind closed doors, but that's another conversation

Re: Jose De Sousa
That's an interesting way of looking at it. If Ross had won the Euros, Norbs the Open and Cullen the Masters in empty rooms... it would have been simple enough to downgrade their wins as only having occurred because ghosts.thegentle wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 11:56 pm About seeing 'unusual' players win titles and go on deep runs behind closed doors, I do wonder how much of a factor that was, because we've seen some relative surprises since we've opened up again, and players like Dimi and Dirk have continued to have success in front of the cameras in front of crowds. Re: Jose De Sousa
Duzza's fall was more drastic and quicker. He also had a greater height to fall from.
Duzza also had a longer peak, which began in the mid 2010s and spanned to the end of 2020 (so at least 5 years). By comparison, JDS was a 2 season wonder, with his peak spanning from late 2020 to around late 2022 (and that might be generous).

Hamilton, Thornton, Newton probably from recent times.
They have all lost tour cards in a few years' span. At the moment Jose is around a top 32 level player. He is far from losing his card.

Re: Jose De Sousa
He hasn't come close to repeating the success he had in late 2020/early 2021 though. The last great run he had on TV was in the 2022 Matchplay, which was 18 month ago. He didn't even make a TV or Euro Tour QF in 2023.

Re: Jose De Sousa
Think he will be one of the players the new ET qualification will benefit. Did his best stuff at ET’s last year. Don’t ever see him getting back into the top 10 again but wouldn’t surprise to see him still in that top 32 in 3 or 4 years time.
At his peak was one the most entertaining players to watch. Just ridiculous scoring power and crazy ways to finish (when his wasn’t miscounting). MvG’s bizarre outbursts about him also were weird as Jose seems like one of the most harmless and nice players on tour.
Anyway hoping for a resurgence from Jose in 2024.

Team Corvid 2024 consists of the following 12 players.
Clayton, Cross, Gilding, De Sousa, Dolan, Evans, Campbell, Krcmar, Lauby, Puha, Szaganski and Turetta

On the fringes of automatic qualification at the moment, so the first few are very important to him to help him stay thereThe Crow wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:37 pm Think he will be one of the players the new ET qualification will benefit.
