Put Hearn on a lie detector and ask if he actually cares about darts or if he just wants to exploit it for money

Yes. I think Baz doesn't keep much of a finger on the pulse anymore.

I'm not overly keen on Bazza.

But I will point out that when Olly Croft was voted off the BDO board and replaced by Martin Adams, a move that Oche and Thorn would have spunked over, the BDO continued to fail miserably.

Sometimes personal feelings should be put aside.

I actually think Hearn is ok. He's a better businessman then his son. When Olly Croft left i thought it was right but then civil war descended. Barry Gilbey (Remember him) was doing a steady job then people got anxious and wanted more, Then the Williams got power.

I kid around Oche, but I'm genuinely curious as to why you believe Barry is a better businessman than his son? You are perhaps right. I've never really had the motivation to compare them.

I'm looking at boxing. Hearn's have lost a lot of ground on Frank Warren with signing boxers. Barry Hearn wouldn't have let that happen really.

I don't think Eddie has lost ground specifically to Frank Warren. Warren's stable is still pretty thin on big names other than Fury and Joyce. In recent times the likes of Warrington and Sunny Edwards have actually left Warren and joined Hearn. Elsewhere, Hearn lost Okolie and Buatsi to Sky, but then again he was able to sign Catterall from them. Hearn also lost Devin Haney, but to Top-Rank rather than Warren.

The questions that get asked about Eddie are. (1) Was he merely lucky to sign AJ and have Sky's promotional power behind him? If so, then perhaps he isn't the genius promoter that he's billed to be (2) Was the boxing boom period he headed in the UK really good for the sport long-term. For example, should a boxer like Dillian Whyte really be headlining PPV events? (3) How does the recent Conor Benn scandal reflect on him? These questions are debated regularly across boxing forums.

As for Barry Hearn, I can only judge him from his achievements in darts. I've only recently become a fan of snooker, so I can't really give an informed opinion on if he's been good for the game or not. I know he also promoted Eubank in the 90s, but I couldn't tell you if he did so competently or not.

Tbf Barry has built up the whole empire by himself, Eddie just ran along with it and rode on the coattails of Joshua for a while

I'd say he probably does quite like it, but he'd also sell his mum down the river for a few bob

Aye, I've seen that theory be floated.

In Eddie's defence he did pack out Wembley with Froch vs Groves when Joshua was a mere novice in the junior ranks. It was only around the mid-2010s that Joshua really took off as a draw.

He had Sky as a partner since around 2011/2012 though IIRC.

Agreed.. of course he loves the money... who wouldn't ?, but you can see that he is passionate about the game too...

He said in an interview a couple of years back that his aim is to get the 64th ranked player on 100k
