I'd say it's true that several companions have fallen in love with the Doctor in the new show. Plus the Doctor has a wife who keeps turning up.

I guess the implication is that heyy women can finally feel 'included' in the show.
The irony being that every woman on earth seems to have a giant crush on Tennant's Doctor and the show was massive back then because of him and Billie Piper.
It's almost as though women want the Doctor to be a hot young man. Oh noes.
