Feminism in sport - justified?
This is a prime example why feminism should only go a certain distance. Physically, women are less than men. On the mental aspect there is also a lot of debate going on. I have no doubt that women in today's society deserve to be equal with men but they are not identical.
This brings up the question of how much attention women's sport really should have in comparison with the male equivalent, and therefore also how big of a shockwave it should generate when women seem to be able to compete with men the 1% of occurrences that they win. How big a news did Sherrock truly deserve? On the other side: is it justified that women's soccer gets far less attention?
There are limits to how much women can do in sports. There are hundreds of men who have achieved a faster time than Florence Griffith-Joyner; there are hundreds of men who have achieved a faster time than Katie Ledecky. And undoubtedly the statements of Serena Williams or Alex Morgan not being able to compete with men at the top level are true as well. As a side note: this surely also counts for Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock in darts, since in other 'mental' sports like chess or something like speedcubing women are also nowhere to be found in top lists.
In short: equality does not mean being seen as identical. It's in my eyes justified that in almost all sports, the males get much more attention than women, and it is also justified that men earn more because they are simply better. There's no discussion to be made here; it's a fact. It's biologically and statistically true.
So shut up, feminists.
