Good stuff tt. The beginnings and the endings are really compelling. If you can warm to the character of Banacek then you should really enjoy it. That's where it goes wrong for me.
Are you a Jonathan Creek fan at all?

The only detective series I have watched are Cracker, Taggart and Bergerac

I've never seen any of those. Although I did see John Nettles playing Bergerac in an episode of The Detectives.

Get out while you can... as a rule I don't even like detective stuff really. Jonathan Creek and Columbo are stark exceptions.

I like The Ellery Queen Mysteries too, a 70s show, developed by the Columbo people. It's nice cosy viewing. I don't remember ever seeing it listed for TV for some reason. It seems to have been forgotten.

I heard about that case on a podcast. Fascinating indeed. It's not over yet either. The body was exhumed last year...

You may like a book series called the Missing 411..

The books are really good...
Some of the National Park mysteries are covered in them...
