Re: Tour card race 2021
Lovely Lisa Ashton is in for a battle. If she finishes 3rd in her Grand Slam group and gets to Ally Pally she’ll miss out on keeping her card by £250…(as it stands)
If she finishes bottom at the Grand Slam but wins at Ally Pally she’ll keep her card
She’s got some work to do at the upcoming super series

She may have to do what she did this week and cash at least £500 in each event..Dave90 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:49 am Lovely Lisa Ashton is in for a battle. If she finishes 3rd in her Grand Slam group and gets to Ally Pally she’ll miss out on keeping her card by £250…(as it stands)

Didn't know you could do that on darts ranking. Re: Tour card race 2021
Confirmation that Ashton will be in the Grand Slam and is a mere £3,500 behind the provisional tour card cut-off. Admittedly, she will face a harder game on paper than the ProTour qualifiers, but if she could nudge ahead of Bradley Brooks (currently £1k behind) on the Order of Merit, I believe she'd be guaranteed to be seeded 3rd in the group (she may well be anyway considering it's likely some jobber will sneak through the qualifiers), which would give her a great chance of getting that one win which would push her just about on the edge of the cut-offDave90 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:49 am Lovely Lisa Ashton is in for a battle. Re: Tour card race 2021
If Ashton keeps her tour card based on two years of Worlds qualifications via the Women's Series, it's a complete disgrace.
But what else can you do, it's not her fault. The system is broken by giving her two chances to qualify, one being ridiculously easy (the Women's Series) and the other being much tougher (PDPA Qualifier).
She's taken advantage of the system magnificently. But well done to her if she wins a game at the Worlds/Slam and keeps the card. You feel bad for the inevitable poor jobber sap in 65th who only had one Worlds qualifier chance.
Yes the old argument about 128 players on tour and, in reality, if you're a card holder and not in the 32 Pro Tour spots, you probably don't deserve to be there. However, a feeder tour for one tour card holder of the 128 gives them an unfair advantage compared to a Scott Waites for example, who's had one solid year and one crap one.
On the other hand...
If she does lose it, she's done pretty damn well all things considered. Yes her floor form is streaky af, but like Sherrock, she has proved she can beat multiple top male players on her day. That's a massive step forward in ladies' darts among the gritty side of the tour, compared to the glamour of Sherrock at the Ally Pally.

Re: Tour card race 2021
She still needs to win a game or two at the Grand Slam and the Worlds tbf, so I'd say if she does that, she deserves to keep her card. Granted, other players get opportunities to fall back on based on their nationality rather than their gender, but it's not a totally unique situation, a few years ago Devon was in a worse position than Ashton, breezed through the African qualifier and then saved his tour card almost exclusively through the Worlds. As you say, there are more than enough opportunities for the rest of the tour to make it, so my sympathies are limited to the unlucky 65th ranked player at the end of the seasonDeepFriedRat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 2:40 am If Ashton keeps her tour card based on two years of Worlds qualifications via the Women's Series, it's a complete disgrace.

What I'd say is that while Ashton hasn't had the hardest draws at the Worlds (Dekker and Hunt), and that one of these days she's going to have to take advantage and win one of those games in which she's a slight underdog in, she hasn't half had difficult draws in the Slam! Cross, Chizzy Hughes in 2019 and then Smith, de Sousa and Ratajski last year

Re: Tour card race 2021
A big weekend for Brooks, his tour card secure for next season anyway, but he shoots up to 67th on the tour card race, just a few grand off 64th. With him being 3rd seed in the Grand Slam group stage and being one of the more dangerous international qualifiers, there's a very decent chance he ends the season in the top 64

Big win for Brooks that, even 3rd place in the group could see him move into the provisional top 64 (albeit Barney and De Decker are in action in Wolves, Sedlacek in Hungary and Klaasen in the Netherlands)

Re: Tour card race 2021
Surprise qualifiers in Hungary and the Netherlands give a few more players a bit of breathing space, although Sedlacek, Kciuk and the Benelux tour card holders will be back for the PDPA qualifier. Should be the last regional qualifiers to really have much of an impact on the tour card race, but that PDPA event will be a right hoot!

Re: Tour card race 2021
Now that he's guaranteed at least 3rd place, Barney creeps into the provisional top 64, two big games coming up involving the ladies, Ashton and De Decker can edge closer to that top 64, or Hendo can more of less secure his tour card without having to win through the PDPA
