If I am reading things correctly, 13 out of the 14 invitatories have been chosen, with 2 spots being reserved for the qualifying event.

In other words, it will be a 16 man field.

But who will the 14th invitation go to? Given that all of the invites so far have gone to former world champions, Tony David perhaps?

I can’t be arsed to read who has entered. The one I wanted to play is playing so that will do for me, the rest are just making up the numbers

As for Tony David? I don’t think he’s played darts for years. I am sure he had health issues. Plus the fact he lives in Australia. Unless he is promised his accommodation and plane ticket then I doubt he would come anyway. At least with guys who don’t play no more like JBW who live in England, there wouldn’t be any problems getting them to play.

That the players have apparently been told to practise long and hard is a glorious sign of an expectation for this thing to be taken deadly seriously.

And that was the source of all the fine comedy of piss palaces past. There's nothing automatically funny about any standard of darts. It's all about the package.

Best of 3 regular sets for Round 1 would be my guess. We've suffered too many piss palace prelims to know the potential problems of best of 5 sets at a low level.

Or, maybe everyone will be happy just to leave it go on and on for hours.

I think it'd have to be normal sets. A bit too long for my liking but my guess would be something like this.
