Instead of polls I propose we cast our votes by writing. The post count, you know. But I like the idea

MVG second but could make a case for Bristow.

But MVG second.

7. Michael van Gerwen
8. Bob Anderson
9. James Wade
10. Gary Anderson

So a while back the FDI Twitter account, who ranks players in a way that works like the ELO ratings in chess, did a Fantasy Grand Slam with the 31 World Champions + Trina Gulliver and he put them into four pots based on peak FDI - the higher the better they were at their prime.
Although not individually ranked (I tried to here) these were the pots:

Pot 1: Taylor, Van Gerwen, Van Barneveld, Bristow, Lowe, Part, Adams, Durrant
Pot 2: Gary Anderson, Lewis, Wright, Cross, Priestley, Hankey, Waites, Wilson
Pot 3: Bunting, Webster, Mitchell, Klaasen, Fordham, Kist, Warren, David
Pot 4: Bob Anderson, Beaton, Deller, Burnett, Rees, Wallace, Walton, Gulliver

Which suggests that for example Durrant and Adams in their prime are better than Gary and Wright in their prime, and Wayne Warren beats Bob Anderson.

Of course there are also great players to have never won the worlds. Although they probably don't really belong high up in a top 20.

This perfectly demonstrates that FDI only works if the players actually compete against each other. When PDC and BDO players don't play each other, the best BDO player will have a hugely inflated rating, which makes the whole system a joke.

Nope.
Taylor is and will always be the greatest.
Shame he's a bit of a cock but there you go.

Those models are bullshit in general.

They are not. They are not applicable to every situation, which doesn't mean they are useless. You just have to know how to use and interpret them.

Like saying averages don't matter is obviously bullshit. They are a good indicator of performance and very useful in a lot of cases. That doesn't mean they are 100% reliable though.
