2020 PDC World Matchplay - July 18-26
Did we have a thread? Couldn't find one. Update:
https://www.pdc.tv/news/2020/05/12/2020 ... lay-update
The PDC has issued the following update in relation to the 2020 Betfred World Matchplay:
As with all PDC tournaments at present, we remain in regular contact with the UK Government in relation to updates regarding regulations and are constantly monitoring the global situation.
At present, the 2020 Betfred World Matchplay remains scheduled for July 18-26 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, and we continue to work with all relevant parties towards achieving this if possible.
However, the PDC plans to confirm on or before Friday June 5 a decision in relation to the planned July dates for this event.
We appreciate that the current global restrictions give cause for concern amongst fans who have purchased tickets for this event.
Should restrictions mean that the July dates are not possible, it would be the PDC's plan to rearrange the Betfred World Matchplay for a date later in 2020, in line with other recently-affected tournaments.

Possible it could be played behind closed doors if phase 3 happens.

They should play it the week that the world series finals was supposed to take place

Settling in for some magnificently random "They should" posts.
They should hold it at the bottom of the sea in the third week of September. How much oxygen would you need for a best of 35?

The PDC can confirm that the 2020 Betfred World Matchplay will take place from July 18-26.
A decision will be made by Saturday July 4 on whether the tournament is able to proceed with a crowd at Blackpool's Winter Gardens.

A decision will be made by Saturday July 4 if the tournament is able to proceed with a crowd at the Winter Gardens.
Should this not be possible, then the tournament will be staged behind closed doors at an alternative, appropriate venue.

The article clarifies it wont be at an empty Winter Gardens.Safc wrote:Wow an empty Winter Gardens that will look depressing however proper darts is better than no darts
Should just admit defeat now tbh, making ticket holders wait another few weeks is idiotic.

Re: "2020 World Matchplay"
I do enjoy chopping a press release to buggery.
WE'LL HAVE A MATCHPLAY
No big hole in the record books, hooray.
There is the question of how to build the field. Here is their floor events plan - none in June. The original cut-off for Matchplay qualification was July 5th and that will pretty much stand, I guess.

The PDC are also finalising plans to resume ranked Players Championship events from July onwards, subject to Government approval and clarification on any quarantine restrictions for overseas-based players. Further details will be announced in due course.

They still have 8/9 months worth of events to go off, hardly a disaster. Everyone is inpacted in the same way

Re: "2020 World Matchplay"
Here's the Matchplay race and this could be it. Nice to see all this again. Kim squeezing in via the final pro tour spot as it stands.
Bunting missing out narrowly on both lists. No Merv. There'll be hard luck tales but that's life at the moment I spose. No doubt there'll be calls to expand the field a little to take the edge off.

As good as it gets I guess. Some people were always going to moan about it, whatever happens. So here you go.

Re:
It's not too bad. The benefit of rolling lists. Twould be much more of a lottery (*klaxon*) if they still used annual lists for the pro tour spots. Players who won a few grand in Feb/March only would be qualifying. The Ginge Reaper wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 4:22 pm They still have 8/9 months worth of events to go off, hardly a disaster.
