16 different winners of the first 82 events.

10 different winners of the most recent 17 events.

That's an incredible contrast.

Tonight's the night. Either Smith goes level with Priestley or Wright goes level with Anderson.

Mad to think it's 9 years since Taylor won the Worlds.

Anyone who got into darts on 02/01/13 or later never saw him winning it.

You know who you are and you sicken me.

I've never seen Taylor win a worlds, and considering now I've become a dart nerd who spends my time watching all pro tour events and even staring at dart connect to see how the EU Challenge Tour is going it is quite odd

I've essentially seen more Jermaine Wattimena in tv events live than i have Phil Taylor, quite sickening

I hope you never know the terror, son. :D Our sense of what's 'normal' for darts is absolutely amazingly different.

I done miss the prowler beating all my fav players, missing the double with the first two darts before almost always hitting it with his third

Shudder. As the years tick by it'll become ever more clear that a single player having the game viciously clamped was just a short blip in time until eventually there will have been no such thing as Taylor. It'll be worth the wait.

Taylor's record at Alexandra Palace, by his standards, was poor really. He played 11 World Championships there, and only won 3 of them. Compare to the Circus Tavern, when Taylor played 14 World Championships there and won 11 (and reached the final of the other 3). Taylor also won 8 of his last 10 World Matchplays.

Not that Taylor was the undisputed best player in the world during the whole Ally Pally era, but I guess the World Championship format helps weaker players in a way because of the setplay format, your opponent can throw hammer and tongs at you but if you win the crucial legs you have every chance. No chance you get a Kirk Shepherd-type player slip through the cracks to reach the final at the Matchplay (of course, getting to the Matchplay is hard enough!)

So often someone would kill themselves to nick a session 3-2 and then get whipped to bits in the next one. That's death in Blackpool. Setplay is a friend of the inadequate for sure. Little wonder I like it then but it doesn't really make a lot of sense. I guess it was regarded as the grand old discipline for darts back in the day.
