The UK Open has been losing prestige ever since it moved from Bolton. (And since they scrapped the red button)
It's a fun tournament with the open draw and the big field of players. Might be one of my favourites, even though I preferred the previous qualifying format to what it is now.
But in terms of prestige, importance, format, money etc, it's a long way behind the Sky majors, including Grand Slam or Premier League. You can luck your way to the final pretty much in short games. The Minehead venue is nothing special, might be one of the worst with the crowd behaviour, usually giving no fuck about the game. Though the second stage is much nicer.
No doubt the UK Open used to be one of the top majors but it's foolish to think it still is. It's on the second tier level with the other ITV events, though it's probably still a bit more prestigious than those.

Re: 1001
Hobo talking too much sense lol. Another set play event would be good as well as another DIDO. The PCs are the proving grounds so I wouldn't change those. The Masters and league are the two best candidates for changing things up. The Matchplay and WGP should remain the same format. Maybe go back to longer format in WGP. ET and GSOD need qualifying criterea changes.
Just a little tinkering on the edges would be good enough me thinks.
