A simple bit of Google AdWords might help them out a bit to get to the top of some BDO World Champs related searches.

They need to actually market to an audience that isn’t either on darts forums or half a dozen FB groups that already know the event is happening.

Half the time they are barely on page one (apart from Wiki and news articles about other things).

Wouldn’t cost them that much either as no one else is running any ads from what I can see. One ticket sale would literally pay their investment back.

But what do I know....maybe planting magic beans somewhere will help.

As per the figures on TSOD, they sold 5000 tickets on day 1 last year.

If you add up all the tickets sold above, and generously credit them with 200 each for the others sessions (the 4 sessions that occur on the opening weekend, the 2 Friday sessions, and the 4 sessions the following weekend), the overall tickets sold barely breaks 2000.

I just listened to Des' interview on the Dartscast and this summed up their situation very well...

"for ticket sales we are targeting the Lakeside audience, these are the group of people that no matter what will be there because that's what they like to do with their be it Friday evening or weekend, they like to go and watch the darts, so these are the people we are targeting"

Yes Des, target the people that you say yourself don't need targeting, that is the way to go about swelling the ticket sales.

So how about streaming the early rounds? Then take the men's last 8 and the munters' last 4 to the tiny O2 side room for full coverage.

This could be a quite cheery, well-attended and even profitable 3-day event. A poor man's European Tour event, if you will.

I remember saying when the BBC binned it that the BDO should revise every detail closely. Channel 4 and Uncle Bob have now gone too and still nothing has been reviewed. This is still a tournament designed for Lakeside and the Beeb. Endless afternoon sessions of crap darts are a huge problem now. But ehh who cares, just plod on frozen in time until the money runs out.

The past few days won't have helped this tournament's ticket sales. Thus far, only 1 BDO player has scored a win over a PDC player in GSOD. The rest, including the BDO's top 2 male players, have been soundly defeated. Harms and Veenstra have a combined record of 0-5 at time of writing. Parletti, who is their top English player, is also currently winless and unlikely to get out of the group stage.

It doesn't make for good marketing does it?
