And who could forget Jeffrey being rightly pissed off by his antics, leading to this comedy moment after losing to him in 2017:

Two or even more years ago he was saying it didn't seem right that BDO players were involved at all in a PDC ranking event. Yet he kept on turning up.

I suspect he is genuinely a bit relieved not to be involved, but not because playing in it violated some grand principles. He just always looked stressed as hell every step of the way, like the whole idea was a bit of an ordeal. Plus his record at the event was becoming, well, would 'embarrassing' be too harsh?
He's right about that. I don't know how this tournament can be a ranking event, not only when you have the BDO's "finest" rocking up, but with the qualifying criteria for PDC players. Barry could at least tell the BDO to sling their hook, they offer nothing to it.

The criteria is shit but it's still a huge event. There are 24 places on offer for the PDC and there are no invites really, the criteria is set in stone. I think one of the biggest PDC events should rightly be ranked, there are too many non-ranking events nowadays anyway

For this to be ranked the qualifying criteria must be set in stone and invitation free. How many ridiculed the Cidercan being a ranking event without any qualifying criteria?

This is no different

It's set in stone for the PDC side, and that's what matters in the rankings anyway, the BDO players don't get the money on their rankings so that's not a problem for me.

Seems like Durrant won't be entering the qualifier then. Not sure about this.

My reading of it is Durrant is a certainty basically on order of the PDC, if Barry Hearn says publicly he should be in I take it as read he will be, same goes for Suzuki and Bennett. Ashton in after performing well at Ally Pally so PDC happy and Jacklin has realised the assets of the BDO are the women and the youth.

Harms, Williams and Veenstra are far and away the best three players and don't think any of the others have a big enough claim so last spot to a "big name" and it would be Mitchell over Waites i'm guessing. I wouldn't be totally shocked if it was a third lady instead though in Sherrock or Dobromyslova.
Fair enough on Durrant and you were nearly right! Thank Christ we don't have to put up with Mitchell this year...
yeah no Mitchell is a bonus, I was scrambling for the last name and didn't think they'd think the likes of Warren, Parletti or Kenny brought enough with them so would revert to a former champ. Cool with some new guys getting a chance anyway.

Just to add that I am looking forward to Oche's annual meltdown.

2018 - "Anyone who takes joy in a player losing because he plays for the BDO is a Twit"

So it seems the take away from the BDO selections is that the PDC finally pulled their finger out part way and took back control of the selection criteria or at least tinkered with it. Need to pull their finger out all the way and get rid of the BDO participants completely. They can show up for the UK open. I get the BDO top players are lazy fucks and don't want to qualify by actually competing in qualifiers, but that is all the more reason to fuck them out of the GSOD.

Inviting two women...lets be honest neither have a chance in hell of doing any damage in this. They will need some serious luck to get out of the group stage. I could live with one getting the invite, and that should be the World Champ of the ladies. 2 is a step too far and stupid.
