The problem is with the qualifying criteria.
The format is ideal for players wanting to dip their toes in the PDC system but who are maybe undecided on moving over to the UK full-time, three games at least to test your mettle. Don't see the need for the BDO contingent to still be there when there's nothing stopping them from trying Q-School, although I do think their days are numbered, it's the floor qualifiers I'm more concerned about

Sorting out the mushroom 8 this week says Baz. So a reminder of something said last year.

Barry Hearn @BarryHearn · 24 Nov 2018
I agree it’s a top flight field and good luck to everyone of them. I was disappointed that the Bdo 8 invites for this years grand slam did not include their ladies Champion - that has to change. ALL women should support new initiatives if their game is to develop.

Phenohyte‏ @Phenohyte180
Realistically Barry the PDC has to say a word and you can include the ladies champion in the Grand Slam. You can be disappointed for their actions but it takes a little rule change on your behalf, if you want that next year

He just said something about that in the interview that's in one of the other threads. He was asked about the women and he said they aren't planning anything, but they would continue with the Ally Pally and Grand Slam qualifiers. Might have been by mistake but I doubt he wants Parletti or some nutter instead of Suzuki in the Slam.

Yes, it's the floor qualifiers that I take issue with.

Oh come on.

Oche's fantasy draw for the Matchplay on TSOD was very insightful.

Not sure how I feel about a 13 year old competing, but it'd be a lot more interesting seeing him and Mikuru Suzuki step up than whatever BDO players are in the rankings at the time

Will Oche be doing another fantasy draw for this?

Would be good if bennett can be on tv as soon as possible so that as many people can come to hate him as early as possible.
Boring Brendas number one and (almost) only fan.

Smithys number one and (definitely not) only hater.

True, but he tends to crack the sads and give up when things are going against him.

An interesting experiment on 'darts for all' here. If the BDO spots are to be representative of this supposedly proudly held value at its core, should they not pick 2 men, 2 women, 2 boys, 2 girls?

Or, when it comes down to it, is their true motivation something far less wholesome, namely a desperation to take down a few filthy tour card holders over 9 legs? In which case, values become inconvenient and just send over the best 8 men.

Bennett shouldn't be anywhere near the GSOD. If he gets in that'll be all for publicity. Youth winner shouldn't get in merit based. He's only mentioned because he's hyped up. Does anyone even remember Joshua Richardson, he won it 2 years ago and no one suggested he should be in.

PDC youth champion and runner up get an invite, so there is a case for BDO youth champion I suppose, but I agree that it will be a publicity stunt if he gets a spot. Leighton and Suzuki will be good PR for both the BDO and PDC, as it will get media interest.
Barry mentioned that Duzza should get a BDO place, but after the Ratty incident last year, will he get offered a place at the expense of a BDO player? That would ruffle a few feathers, that is for sure.
When did the BDO announce their players last year?

I get Suzuki, she at least won the ladies comp which is 4 TV games, and shown she can play to a decent standard. I'm not denying Leighton is a great talent but I don't think he should get in just for winning the youth comp. Winning the womens is by far a better achievement.

Durrant should get a place really. I don't think he will though, Hearn set his stall out on that one. And he will blame the BDO (totally undeservedly) should Durrant not qualify.
