Gary Anderson's replacement

Post by Icardi Breezer » Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:03 pm

With all the controversiery and opinions flying around. If you had to choose a straight up replacement for Ando in the PL, who would it have been?

I'd have selected Durrant, just for the fresh matches, and he's the one guy who could finish 2nd top or 2nd bottom with no suprise in my opinion..

If being fanciful and picking anyone, I could name a dozen players I'd like to see.

Using reality as a starting point, I would have had nothing against Whitlock or Chizzy. Whitlock's TV final at the Euros nudging me his way probably.

Durrant would be embarrassed by the idea and I'm not sure how he's been elevated to such a place in people's considerations. I wouldn't even have given him a guest spot this year. New card holders have no sparkly dust for me and can wait for their time.

Personally, in an ideal world, I think the player who would best combine ability, star quality and would provide a breath of fresh air would be Cadby but obviously that was never going to happen. Next best thing I guess would be de Zwaan if you could guarantee he could handle it (big if), and if not, Chizzy

I picked Chizzy, because he looks to be playing well, this might have been to soon for Durrant, but i still would not complained if they went with him..

Let's be straight here, Duzza shouldn't be anywhere near with after scraping through Q School

The only reason any sick cunt would want melted face in pl is to watch him get battered week in week out and commit suicide.

Durrant shouldn't have been in but he's the one I would actually watch. It would be fresher than seeing Lewis or Chizzy again for the 10th time. If you go on merit Whitlock deserved it the most but he's been in awful form. I can't imagine many would want to watch him stinking up the PL

I would rather have Lewis in than Duzza.

I agree about Whitlock. I could happily never see him play again.

Lewis is definitely someone I hope to see in the PL next year. I'm just not sure his form is there to be honest, it was pretty bad in the Masters.

Honestly I would prefer Duzza to Lewis because the difference in expectations. Finishing in the bottom 2/3 would be a failure for a name like Lewis but you could certainly excuse Durrant if it happened to him given that it's his first big TV event in the PDC and a newcomer to the PL

Is Q-School going to define him for ever more? Very unique set of circumstances that won't be repeated, it has no bearing on anything really, and it's not as if the fans going will even know anything about Q-School

Not on merit but it's just an exbo and as amateur champ it would be marketable.

The Pro Tour will be a lot tougher and a higher standard, have no expectations for Duzza

At least it makes a change from his being defined by the moment when he logged in here and said he'd be swallowed up in the PDC, or the WDC as it was probably known at that time.

Of course the ProTour is harder, but in a way there is less pressure as if you fuck up, there's always the next event where you can make it up, Durrant was on a hiding to nothing at Q-School as he was expected to sail through. I think there are things he could have done differently in the build up to Q-School, but for whatever reason he didn't, I think he'll draw a line under it and do alright this year. Players like Noppert and Ratajski (who shat it even worse at Q-School), who are clearly less talented than Durrant, had a great year on the ProTour, I don't see why Durrant can't at least emulate them. Really, the way some people talk about Durrant, you'd think he literally has a heart attack any time anyone averages 90+ against him, but you've got players with no bottle like White or Cullen who are high in the PDC rankings, why can't Durrant join him?

P.S., the Grand Slam darts finally arrived, enjoying them at the moment! They don't write averages on trophies, but they do on limited edition commemorative darts!

An absolute disaster unless he can go for a nice relaxing meal with Diogo Portela between hands.
