2019 DPA ProTour

Post by thegentle » Wed Jan 30, 2019 2:46 pm

The first 4 of 30(!) events will take place this weekend, 1 on Friday, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday (wonder if the Challenge Tour will nick this idea? ). No Cadby this year, I guess thIs means there'll be more convicts on the main ProTour than the convict tour then?

Seedings and draws. 115 players for events 1 and 3, pretty good going I suppose, including some women (but no Hammond). Heard it might be available on DartConnect to follow which would be nice, soon enough everything PDC-related will be recorded on there

As per Zeyes a few months ago:
'Oh, and - being PDC tour card holders Whitlock/Anderson/Nicholson/Cadby will only be allowed to play as guests at one tournament weekend, but won't appear on the DPA Order of Merit in any case. So, if Cadby intends to play some darts next year and still can't get into the UK, he just might have to give up his PDC tour card if they stick with enforcing that rule... I hope someone's told his management.'

Heh, Nicholson.

115 players is awesome for that tour, most events the last few years have hovered around the 64 mark. Will be interesting to see if they can maintain that level of attendance under their new tour card system, or if it's gonna crater to the usual numbers later in the season.

Looks like they're playing half the events as straight knockouts and the other half under their normal roundrobin prelim + qualifier knockout format?

Thanks thegentle.

That Cadby hasn't given up his card might offer some hope for him? Or maybe he has not even thought of it.

My next question is why is Paul Nicholson not playing?

Standard fairly mixed, some averages over 90, some around 80, but an mean somewhere in the mid 80s. Damon Heta has been pretty good today, averaged 100+ in one of his games, as well as a 98.6 against David Platt

Platt himself has been involved in a match-fixing scandal, he and Steve MacArthur fabricated a result of a game that never happened late last year and admitted to it, but both got away with a $500 fine and a suspended ban. VERY fortunate, imagine if Gerwyn Price did that lol

Damon Heta at it again, 102 average in beating Justin Thompson, definitely looking the man to beat

Seen that, it's a fucking disgrace. Should be a 1-2 years ban for match fixing surely.

And the rest! Ulang got a 7 year ban, bigger stage of course, but matchfixing is matchfixing

Cheers Thorn.

That is an unbelievably light sentence. Can understand the low fine as they don't make any money from the game, but should have been banned for at least 1 year.

Heta-Bailey final, should be a decent game between the two best players today

That's arguably not even just match-fixing, that's straight-up fraud. I wonder how they tried to get around the question of who allegedly marked that game - or maybe they didn't and that's how it blew up.
