Re: Favourite major matches
Worlds- The Anderson/MVG Semi in '15. Ridiculous standard, joy to watch. Also remember Ando having ridiculous record on tops that night, barely missed it.
Although Aspinall going in to God mode to knock out Price from 0-2 down in the last world's was a personal favourite of mine.
Matchplay- not the best game in terms of standard, but Terry Jenkins knocking Taylor out in the '07 semi, Jenkins hitting a lovely 158 to go 3-0 up
Grand Prix- Lewis knocking Taylor out in '10. Lewis was unplayable in the second part of that match
Grand Slam- Steve Be producing a mental comeback Vs Taylor years ago, I'm sure it was the year Waites won it. Beaton 14-11 down and just kept clutching checkouts, magical.
UK Open- Wright/Barney quarter final '17. Amazing to watch

Worlds- MVG Lewis QF 2013. 12 months after Aidy declared he would win 8-10 World Titles, you could see as the game went on he was realising that even getting a 3rd wouldn't be easy.
Matchplay- Mensur vs Ando 2015.
Grand Prix- Taylor vs Callaby 2004.
Grand Slam- Good shout with sexy Steve in 2010. Taylor's only best of 31 defeat for about 7 years I believe. MvG v Kimmy in 2014 another memorable one.
UK Open- Nothing really stands out, maybe Thornton beating Taylor in 2012.

Re: Favourite major matches
Worlds - Cross beating Van Gerwen at the Worlds Semi Finals in 2018.
Matchplay - Phil Taylor giving a lesson to Michael van Gerwen in the 2017 Quarter Finals following with the Power's famous interview with Laura Woods when first he launched a scathing attack on MvG and then asking the people whether "Wayne Mardell" talks rubbish to the approval of the crowd.
Grand Prix - The dramatic 2017 final between Gurney and Whitlock.
Grand Slam - Definitely Gary beating van Gerwen in last year's semis.
UK Open - No match that particularly springs in mind to be honest.
N.B. I have decided to limit myself to the three years I've been following this sport from the Worlds Semi Finals of 2016.

Worlds- so many but Probably the Taylor v Lowe classic circa 1995.
Matchplay- wade v scholten 2006 I think
Grand Prix- either of the taylor/part finals
Grand Slam- Taylor v Lewis semi final
UK Open- only game that stands out is Taylor's come from behind victory against part including walking off at 10-10 thinking it was a break, 2005 I think.

Re: Favourite major matches
One I remember loving at the time and partly starting my love of darts, was wade v whitlock at the world champs in 2010. Whitlock won 5-3 averaging 105 and I recall there being loads of ton plus finishes.

Re: Favourite major matches
Backed it up in the semi against Barney and gave Taylor all the trouble he could handle in the final as well.
Loved that wizard

In my opinion doesn't come close to the first Taylor Barney final, possibly the best match ever

Re: Favourite major matches
Agree, it was a final, and had far fewer shenanigans than MvG-Cross. I can't really properly appraise it though given it's the one final in my time watching darts that I didn't see live!

Was proper edge of seat stuff mate. Even the ex was captivated by it and she hated watching dartsthegentle wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 5:24 pmAgree, it was a final, and had far fewer shenanigans than MvG-Cross. Re: Favourite major matches
Just watched the Taylor Lewis grand slam match again on YouTube. Almost forgot how ridiculous it was. Lewis's throw back then is probably my favorite ever to watch, effortless everytime. Real shame he didn't remain at that standard. In the 3rd 5 leg session they both averaged over 117.5

Re: Favourite major matches
Just watched the Lewis taylor 2010 grand prix match from 4-2 Taylor. One thing I don't miss - sid relentlessly talking about the lie/the understacker/the weight of the dart.
