Got to applaud Durrant though for seeing the BDO for what it is.. Not kidding himself or spinning it.

He knows that they should have a tour but no World Championship at the end of it.

To be honest if they want to have a 'World Championship', then let them. If anyone is still stupid enough to still believe that it is a disputed title between theirs and the PDC's, then that's their problem. Changing the name of the title isn't going to make a difference to anything at this point.

Hoping some monster will correct this if wrong... 30 card holders out, 30 in.
Both lists sorted by current age, for want of anything else.

Average age out: 41.1
Average age in: 34.9

Wow great manipulation of facts to prove a point! lol

Seriously its a good news I used like Terry Jenkins but his time is up along with the likes of Painter. It's a shame but they won't be missed

The fanatics have changed their argument a bit.

They don't really argue that their World Championship is the proper one anymore. They just argue that the BDO title should still be seen as a proper World Championship in its own right.

The boxing comparison doesn't wash. There are indeed multiple world titles in boxing, but some are considered legitimate, while others are not. For example, Ricky Hatton had a "world title" for years in name. But no one took it seriously. Same applies for Audley Harrison's "world title". The Lakeside title is about as legitimate as those titles.

Also, boxing has titles which were considered paper back in the day, but which are recognised as legitimate now, there are no titles which still exist which used to be recognised as legit but are now considered paper like Lakeside (the IBO is closest I guess, it was pretty close to being a 'fifth' governing body, but doesn't seem to be taken at all seriously anymore)

They are harmless at this point so just let them crack on with what they want. Anyone with a functional brain knows the score.

It's one of them anyway. Barneveld is presented at PDC events as a 5-time World Champion (obviously there was a bit more about the BDO back then, but still), and I'm sure they won't be shy about trumpeting Durrant's credentials if and when he starts making TV events so it isn't like they get nothing out of it.

They've kinda drawn the line at van Barneveld though. Don't think the PDC have publicly referred to anyone since Klaasen as "world champion" anymore for years now, it's always "Lakeside champion" when those players appear in PDC events nowadays. No idea what would happen if one of the more recent Lakeside winners were to win Ally Pally in the future, if he'd get a combined count like RvB and Part have, but looking at the list of winners that seems unlikely to happen again anyway.

We'll see how they treat Durrant in his first TV tournament. (I'd expect he'll be getting a stage game at the UK Open.)

They say Lakeshite Champion in the walk on, but if a session features Adrian Lewis, Bunting and Webster for example, Dave Clark will still begin the coverage by saying the night features 3 World Champions.

Maybe that's just Sky trying to hype things up, though.

One more thing I'm interested to see about Duzza, will he keep his walk-on music? Obviously that song is well-known for being Adrian Lewis' song, I wonder whether they'll tell one of them to change it

Up to Barney's switch in February 2006, there was a serious discussion to be had about which World Championship was better, even though I always sided with the PDC from the start. From 1995-2001, I'd even say that the BDO not only had more prize money at their World Championship but more depth in the field too (until the Skol Six departures in late 2001), even though the PDC had the majority of the top players in the world from the very start of the split. After Barney switched in February 2006, we then we had 3-5 years or so from 2007-2009 (perhaps to 2011) where the PDC had won, but Lakeside was still decent with some very good players. Then the start of PDC tour cards and Q School with 4 years of offering tour cards to Lakeside semi finalists from 2011-2014, and since then barely any attention paid to the BDO, especially after the Deluxe fiasco of 2016 and Lakeside off the BBC.

The two time back to back champion of the world will keep his music no doubt. Unless their respective rankings cross over

I may be confusing these two. I just remember the father of the one on TSOD seemed a bit over the top in pushing his kid who was a young teenager. Holmes showed some potential and played a fairly high level in his county with the adults. Don't ever recall any results for Barberan so nothing yet has come of him either.
Here you go Rob.

Reach Up is such a fucking great walk on song. It’s wasted not being used if Adrian still isn’t playing.
