Wonder if they'll replace absent tour card players with more CT players, or just play with less than 160 in the field?

I guess the former.

I don't think they'll want to bring back the preliminary round when there used to be ties in the Qualifier Order of Merit.

I will miss the qualifiers as I enjoyed seeing certain players struggle to qualify and being bothered to show up at a floor event. But the changes certainly create some incentives for CT participation as well as value to tour card. The prize pool bump puts it closer to the major status so a very good thing.

A larger concern for me is the GSOD and nixing the BDO participation and introducing spots for the affiliated PDC tours. Lets see what the PDC does with that event.

I'm guessing the PDC's plans are in a holding pattern where the GSOD is concerned. It gets hard to justify the BDO spots if even the Lakeside ends up on a minor TV channel, so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear anything at all about the 2019 edition until it's clear where the BDO is headed.

Seems the next announcement will be the calendar then.

Euro Q-School held during Lakeside is certainly interesting. Not sure 90% of the BDO top players will be giving it a go then.

Also do we think anything changes with the extra PL night, or just a rescheduling of the same format?

Here's the answer from twatter:
Following Judgement Night, there will be four fixtures per night for the remaining seven weeks, eliminating the need for two players to play twice.

Looks like they will be reverting to 4 matches per night after judgement night so no player having to play twice.
The Euro QS is odd being so early and it will certainly prevent the Lakeshite mob attending
Shame that the CT is not changing at all and CT 5-8 in may clash with ET 6 and 17-20 clash with Gibraltar in late September

They've not thought that through properly.

There's a 4 month gap between the first two sets of Challenge Tour events and then they get through the remaining 12 in 3 months.

Yeah, as it stands more than half the PC fill-ins will be chosen based on the results of just one CT weekend. Wouldn't surprise me if that gets changed, the lesser tour dates have seen post-announcement changes in past years, too.

I hope this gets fixed, as well as the clashing dates between ETs and the Challenge Tour. It's great to have 30 Players Championships but in all honesty I'd rather see the CT get sorted out.

Put the foot down on the BDO.

I expect by Ally Pally they'll announce prize fund increases too.
