Possibly Turkey. Christ, just had a flashback to that Turkish Open flyer with the old bird in the bath with SUE LOVES TURKEY written on her. There just isn't any shame.

Been posted on Twitter that Potter won't be covering the prize fund and no proper TV coverage

People have been predicting the death of Lakeside for over a decade. I remember during the 2008 Lakeside that a guy I worked with at the time was convinced that it was the final Lakeside and that there wouldn't be a 2009 version. He reasoned that they didn't have enough top players to run a "world championship" (or something like that)

But this time it really does feel that the BDO and Lakeside are about to crumble. With CH4 dropping them, the Jacklins running the show, etc, it's difficult to imagine them lasting much longer.

Maybe he could have dragged Taylor down, we will never know.

As a top end product it's been redundant for at least a decade now.

The Lakeside tourney has long been at the mercy of Potter's willingness to stump up big money for it, and that has (at least presumably) always been at the mercy of the BDO having a big-ticket TV channel to show it on. They've been on borrowed time ever since the BBC dumped them.

Even if Channel 4 does re-sign in the end, I would suspect they'll pay less for it than the last time around. The overall product is in worse shape than two years ago, and Lakeside now doesn't even have the lingering BBC exposure factor going for it that it did for the 2017 edition. It's now just some darts tournament that Channel 4 happens to show.

Soon could be where the Grand Slam is the only sizeable TV exposure for any of em. You talk about willingness and mercy, if they're down to their final angel then it's surely BARRY 'I will fuck you within every inch of your life' HEARN. Oh the ironying.

Do you think they are worth the up front 1 million now? Upsetting to think of the lost comedy if they'd just done accepted that in the fuckn first place.

Wasn't worth it then
Uncle Barry said recently he was relieved they had turned him down as it would have been a waste of money.

At the time it would have been worth the £1m as Uncle Barry would never have presided over the clusterfuck that followed. We'd never have heard of Warren Brown

At the time I think it would have been worth far more than a 1M. Remember PDC didn't have CT, DT, or ET nor the q school system. They still where pissing money away at the Las Vegs Classic and taking the PC events to USA and Canada all with no interest from the target markets and certainly pissing the players off having to travel all the way over here to get ranking points for major qualifiers. Obtaining the BDO would have meant getting the infrastructure of international events across the globe. This would have really hurt the WDF.

Also having two events labeled "Pro World Championship" does dilute the PDC value some. Lakeside still had some prestige back then, if only based on its historical past and being on the BBC. So getting the monopoly on the Pro World Championship would have been worth some serious cash alone and more than worth a 5 yr investment to get it.

For the PDC at this point the BDO ain't worth a pile of dog shit, topped off with cat shit. PDC have laid down the structure they needed in the various tours. Also invested in taking the game to other parts of the world as a spectator sport via the WSOD. Well on the way to developing a two tiered Pro Tour with the growth of the ET's. All with out having to do with the out dated mindset of the mushrooms and the importance of the county darts. Also they don't have to be bothered about the WDF and whatever stupid crap they like to do as a governing body. PDC better off just waiting, it won't be long now before the BDO isn't even on TV.

Not entirely sure even now the offer was made with any serious thought it would be accepted.
Whatever else he might have done with it ridding the game of the annual embarrassment at lakeshite would have been worth the money alone.

Wouldn't surprise me if the two big talking points about this years WC's are:
Newton and Hamilton if they make it. How will they do at Lakeside.
And how will the two BDO ladies do in the PDC.

Presumably Newton and Hammer will be at Q school next year. I don't see how anything they do before then will be talked about.

Would be amusing and proof positive of what a pile of shit the bdo is if they get remotely close never mind qualify.
Like we need any further proof.
