PDC just tweeted that Cross and Ashton will play on the first night.

So it's

Ashton v Dekker
De Zwaan v Kumar
King v Ashton/Dekker
Cross v De Zwaan/Kumar

Might be a bit of friendly needle in Humphries-Hunt-- Humphries edged out Hunt on the Development Tour last year to make to Ally Pally

If mvg makes final he will have earned it.
Horrendous draw compared to some of the other quarter

Barry did say that cross would be on the first night..
Defending champion is always on first night
Bit harsh to have to play two best of five set matches in one session

Edit.. sorry ginge, I misread your post...
Not sure if it is one or two 2nd round games..

He did say Cross was on first session but King won't be, see my screenshot.

As for playing twice, its the only way to ensure a seed plays in each session otherwise the opening night is a bit pants. Won't happen in any other session.

Yeah you're right. I assumed it would be 2 first round and 2 second round games in each session

Barney or Cross will win the title, in my opinion. Barney will be back to good form because it's the World Championship (where he tends to show up at or near his best) and now he's more settled as to where his career is ending up. And I think Cross is going to go hard on the practice board to get back to form, and he won't want that world title going from his grasp without a big fight.

Last 16 you mean?

Even by the scenes of this year, that would be something else. De Zwaan-Van den Bergh at Ally Pally. A long, long way off.

De Zwaan will probably be playing 2 matches on the opening night then, with the world champ at the end of it. No idea if that's good or bad for him, or neither. An amazing start to proceedings anyway.

His lordship v Dimitri would be bitter sweet but at least one would be guaranteed to progress.

He's young, so you'd fancy him to be able to endure two games in a night pretty well. His game might also be over fairly quickly, which you'd assume is a good thing, enough time to get settled but not long enough to get tired

Barney would have to seriously play out of his skin to beat fatpot, then MvG then possibly Wade for a semi against gando or gurney. If he can do that he deserves a place in the PL

Cross would beat Clayton, bunting or Dimitri then Bully or Mensur and possibly price or crusty..

Bloody hell, this is very open this year..
Certainly not just about MvG and Gando

I think it's more open this time than any other.

Last year, they did a 1-hour show where all the 1994-2017 PDC World Champions apart from Raymond van Barneveld sat down and talked with Dan Dawson. At the end, Dawson said it would likely be one of them lifting another World Championship trophy in the new year. I agreed 100%, and couldn't really see anyone else winning the whole thing even if they made deep runs. Of course, Cross won it.

This year, there are many strong candidates, and even outside candidates, who I think are capable of winning it.
