Why would he retire when he still has probably another 5 years of undeserved Premier League, World Series and Grand Slam invites to come?

Hallo it's Laurel and Hardy.

"There have been a few tournaments since I have won and I know I don’t need to send any messages but sometimes it is nice to let everyone know who is boss.'' - MVG.

"He’s ruining everything for us, he keeps winning everything,” joked Van Barneveld after the match.'

On a related note - is van Barneveld now the last remaining relevant link to pre-Hearn/non-Hearn darts? Taylor retired, Adams' form gone to pieces (probably for good), and the rest are either also-rans like Beaton or guys like Anderson who won stuff in the BDO but aren't identified with it any longer.

Anyway, there's still money to be made with RvB, but I wouldn't be surprised if a small part of Barry Hearn will savour the moment when he retires, putting the final nail into that era.

Draw done for Melbourne

(1) Michael van Gerwen v Raymond Smith
Simon Whitlock v Corey Cadby
(4) Peter Wright v Mike Bonser
Raymond van Barneveld v Raymond O'Donnell
(2) Rob Cross v Haupai Puha
Michael Smith v Tim Pusey
(3) Gary Anderson v James Bailey
Kyle Anderson v Damon Heta

MVG v Cadby in Round 2, hopefully.

Other than cadby I don't know the other qualifiers.
Can't remember a mvg v cadby game before.
Need to widen the stage.

They played in a players championship final in 2018 apparently.
Mvg won 6-1.

Anyone know when this starts tomorrow? Not the ITV coverage but the live event?

It starts at 7pm on Friday night in Melbourne.
They are ten hours ahead so that makes it 9am our time?

As much as this is great for the development of the game I can't get interested at all

Ditto
I watched it last year but really don't care.
That said mvg v cadby would be worth watching.

Agreed. Sunday session last week was the most boring PDC session in years.

Table seats for Sunday are 100 AUD by the way. Will be surprised if they get near selling out.
