Taylor when he beat Lewis in the Grand Slam 2013 final? Summat like 114 wasn't it?
MVG beating Barney in the 2015 Masters final I think. 112.49, won 11-6.

Yeah I think so, in fairness they are basically the same and I'd say this is better due to the 120 plus average nearly all the way through, definitely in the top 3 TV final performances ever! Hard to get any better than Taylor and MVG at their best that's for sure, feel sorry for the other players, losing to MVG tonight is hardly a crime Smith was very good.

That was the semi final at the 2013 Grand Slam. Taylor had a worse end average than Lewis in that one, despite winning 16-9. Taylor beat Thornton in the final.

Evening.

I believe Taylor had a very big average in a Dutch TV final against Barneveld around 2011.

Van Gerwen against Barneveld in the semi finals of the 2017 World Championship had a 114 end average after 8 sets of darts, and Barney 109. I think that was van Gerwen's greatest performance of his career.

Van Gerwen has much of what Taylor had at his best, but to be where Taylor is all time he is going to have to keep doing what he's doing for at least another 10 years, through ups and downs and life changes, where he keeps winning most TV tournaments. The World Championship and World Matchplay are what people are going to look at first and foremost. At the moment, Taylor has a double 16, and van Gerwen has a double 2. Before looking at Taylor, I think van Gerwen needs to first make himself the clear second best of all time, which he probably will be when he gets 5 World Championships and 5 World Matchplays. Taylor will still be miles ahead even then.

Taylor has set the best targets possible for van Gerwen. The standard is the highest it can be. The biggest challenge of all isn't the averages, it's the longevity of the dominance. So far, van Gerwen has impressed me with how he doesn't let some painful defeats demoralize him from continuing his dominance from week to week.

Even crazier when most of us have been saying that he has not been at his best this year
The expectation of him is so high now that a mere 100 average is considered a b game for him
Considering he still has those 2 or 3 legs each game when he switches off, it is remarkable that he can produce stats like like.
Tonight he was just unplayable..no one would have beat him

Not even Duzza or McGeeney

Taylor played in 13, won 6, winning 6 of the first 8, including the first 3 years undefeated and another undefeated run in 2010. In terms of the league table, only Taylor and van Gerwen have ever topped the table at the end of the league phase (Taylor 8 times from 2005-2012, van Gerwen 6 times from 2013-2018).

Mvgs was clearly playing the board not Smith after the interval.

If anything, games like this make the recent collapses against MvG even more frustrating. You know few people can live with him on this kind of form, but to bottle it when he's averaging in the 90s...

Really please for Smith getting to the final, he was so pleased he couldn't speak. Not a bad pay day for him and his family, and over the course of the PL season finishing second 100% deserved a final.

And a quick shout to the 4+ 180's by each player in each match bet that was shown in earlier posts, also put on (MvG to win PL, Most 180s in each match and highest average in each match) 3/1, so made a good few quid myself.
