The double double
When did this become the way to go?
It makes sense with the bigger target but also the danger of missing the board.
As recently as a few years ago it wasn't seen at this level I'm sure.

Seems to be a recent trend, maybe the last three or four years.Randall wrote:When did this become the way to go?

When I was at my peak it was deemed to be showboating !!!

I'm thinking Manley started it?Mabbsy wrote:Seems to be a recent trend, maybe the last three or four years.Randall wrote:When did this become the way to go?

72 with two in hand nobody ever considered d18 d18 or d20 d16.

You could be right about Manley.Randall wrote:I'm thinking Manley started it?Mabbsy wrote:Seems to be a recent trend, maybe the last three or four years.Randall wrote:When did this become the way to go?

I remember an opponent doing it to me on D20 D20 about ten years back, I was way back and couldn't finish, I was not a happy chucker as felt it was showboating.
Times have changed.

God Harrington in the 1998 World Matchplay Final (sorry Mabbsy)
A crucial 2 darts in hand needing 80, goes tops tops, successfully.
Commentators react like they'd never witnessed such a thing. 1998.

In the BDO it's the Travel Club's favourite game, take any selection form the top shelf and just top it up

Good find Rogg.
It was certainly out of the ordinary.
You miss the board and you've wasted a dart, in still not absolutely convinced.

Re: The double double
Manley started the trend of going for the bullseye with the first dart when needing 81, 83, 84 or 85 with 3 darts in hand, thus guaranteeing at least 1 dart at an outer ring double. Harrington in the 1998 World Matchplay final is the first obvious example of a double double finish.

Re: The double double
With 80 left and two in hand comms said it had to be two tops, where as a year ago it would have been t20 or t16 if your Merv.
At a time when the trebles are getting bigger and bigger it just seems odd.

Re: The double double
Back in my early league days I'd go double double on 64 and d17 d16 on 66 I love d16 that much. Wasn't good enough to show off but made sense
When you actually feel anger over a place like this it's time to get a life

I've been known to go d14 d14 on 56 but that's because I'm shit and don't fancy hitting much else.
