He may not win 'em all, but he wins more than he don't. I'll take MvG vs the field in any tourney he enters until further notice.

It's amazing how many people hate a winner. Is it because he's Dutch?
Since this thread was started he has won 1 out of 3 TV Majors so you might want to check your maths.

I don't like van Gerwen because he behaves like a prick on stage and a prick on interviews.
I don't like Gurney
I don't like Huybrechts
I don't like Painter

All for the same reasons

I'm not racist I hate everyone! lol

Plays Nicholson in first round, West or Searle in round two (assuming no one withdraws)
Would need a fucking miracle

The standard is higher now than 20 years ago because the segments on the board can be seen from the moon. Where we play our darts matches on Tuesday nights we've got a hd2 as the matchboard and an old board with the thicker wires as a practice board. The difference is massive.

The averages now are a direct result of the boards.
It's fine because everyone plays on the same but as a referene point accross era's absolutely redundant.

No doubt some great darts are being played at the top end of the PDC (mainly by about 2 or 3 players) but whoever doesn't factor in the boards is blind.

That is such a crucial and correct point.

I was watching a You tube clip recently of Taylor v Priestly 1998 World Final where Taylor destroyed him with a 104 average and was stunned to see just how small the trebles and doubles looked compared to nowadays.

If the Likes of Bristow & Lowe had target areas like nowadays both would have averaged in the 100's for huge number of their matches.

I still think taylors 111+ average against Burgess in 2002 is as good if not better than Van Gerwen's 114 last year as if you watch the Taylor-Burgess match on Youtube
the scoring areas are clearly noticeably smaller.

Even his superb final performance against part in 2001 where he averaged over 107 and about 75% of his doubles the scoring segments are way smaller than nowadays and i still rate that as one of his best performances as good as many of his 110 -111 averages in more recent times.

Seeded to play Wright in QF where it's still best of 19, then probably Gurney in SF and maybe Gando or Cross in the final, both best of 21.

I don't think it's a great bet at Odds-on

MVG's grouping is great but so many of his first dart is on the inside of the top wire. Whatever anyone says that would be a single on any pre 2007 board.

Not really. Had he had the draw I mentioned above, he wasn't a great bet.
