Re: Comebacks and collapses in matches
In the 2013 Players Championship, John Part missed a record 18 match darts from 5-1 up against Andy Hamilton and went on to lose the match 6-5.

Part also threw away something like a 7-1 lead against Taylor in the UK Open in 2005. Yet for a few years he was the only player who made Taylor think.a massive zebra wrote:In the 2013 Players Championship, John Part missed a record 18 match darts from 5-1 up against Andy Hamilton and went on to lose the match 6-5.

Re: Comebacks and collapses in matches
Surprised nobody mentioned King against Wade in the first PDC Masters
When you actually feel anger over a place like this it's time to get a life

Was the final of the 2014 Masters (second iteration of the Masters, actually). I remember it well, King got 9-2 and 10-6 up yet lost 10-11 to Wade. Has to be the closest King got to a PDC TV title.

Re: Comebacks and collapses in matches
Ones that stand out:
2011 World Matchplay: Simon Whitlock leads Andy Hamilton 15-8 and is 1 leg away from victory, until Hamilton wins 7 legs in a row to level it at 15-15, and take the match into a tiebreak. Hamilton then won another 2 legs in a row to win 17-15.
2014 Masters: Mervyn King leads James Wade 9-2 and 10-6. Wade wins 11-10.
2005 Premier League: Roland Scholten leads Phil Taylor 11-7. Taylor wins 13-11.
2005 UK Open: John Part leads Phil Taylor 4-0, 7-1 and 10-6. Taylor wins 11-10.
2011 UK Open: Co Stompe leads Mark Webster 6-0. Webster wins 9-8.
2010 Grand Slam: James Wade leads Scott Waites 8-0 and 11-8. Waites wins 16-12.
2012 Players Championship Finals: Andy Hamilton leads Phil Taylor 8-3 and 9-5, blows 60 with 3 darts at 9-7. Taylor wins 10-9.
2007 World Championship: Phil Taylor leads Raymond van Barneveld 3-0, having dropped just 1 leg. Barneveld wins 7-6 in sudden death.
2013 European Championship: Jamie Caven leads Simon Whitlock 9-3. Whitlock wins 10-9.
2005 World Matchplay: Wayne Mardle leads Peter Manley 14-9. Manley wins 16-14.
1994 World Matchplay: Dennis Priestley leads Larry Butler 7-3. Butler wins 16-12.
2008 World Matchplay: Raymond van Barneveld leads Wayne Mardle 12-7. Mardle wins 18-16.
2012 World Championship: With Andy Hamilton already in the final, there was the famous draftgate semi final match between Adrian Lewis and James Wade, with the draft controversy occurring during the second and third sets of the match. Wade led Lewis 5-1, and Wade then asked to go off for a break at the end of the sixth set, but was told by referee Bruce Spendley that the only break left was at the end of the eighth set. Wade's form slightly dips in the next 2 sets while Lewis' form rises. Nevertheless, Wade came from 2 legs down in the eighth set to throw for the match. When throwing for the match, Wade wired a match dart at double 18 that would have won the match 6-2, and Lewis then checks out 98 in two darts to trail 3-5. Wade never won another leg, averaging just 70s-80s in the last 3 sets, as Lewis beats Wade 6-5 after winning the last 10 legs of the match.

Re: Comebacks and collapses in matches
It wasn't as though Taylor clicked through the gears to win 6 legs in a row to win, Scholten simply schat it. Taylor then naturally processed Lloyd about 16-0 in the final from hell. Traumatising.PT13 wrote:2005 Premier League: Roland Scholten leads Phil Taylor 11-7. Taylor wins 13-11.

Another couple, involving Kevin Painter on both sides:
2010 World Matchplay: Colin Lloyd leads Kevin Painter 8-2 and 9-5. Painter wins 11-9.
2011 World Matchplay: Kevin Painter leads Adrian Lewis 9-6, and 1 leg away from victory. Painter misses multiple match darts. Lewis wins 14-12.
2010 World Matchplay: Colin Lloyd leads Kevin Painter 8-2 and 9-5. Painter wins 11-9.

Re: Comebacks and collapses in matches
I believe Colin Lloyd had 1 dart to win 4-1, 1 dart to win 4-2, and 2 darts to win 4-3. Incredible match, with Barney winning in sudden death.Rogg wrote:^Lloyd 3-0 up in sets, had four match darts at various points. It went all the way to a sudden death leg which Barney won.
Speaking of Lloyd, a year earlier Lloyd was 2-0 up against Gary Welding in the first round of the 2006 World Championship, and playing brilliantly. Lloyd was second favourite for the title behind Taylor, yet Welding responded with a very high quality set of his own in the third set, and then Welding ground out the match 3-2. I'm not sure Lloyd was ever quite the same after that.

Lloyd rep was a lot better than his actual game.

2011 World Championship against Welge. Lloyd cut himself in the process too. Bruce Spendley's reaction was the funniest bit, a "shock, horror" look on his face.Randall wrote:Lloyd rep was a lot better than his actual game.

Another great comeback was at the 1998 World Matchplay. Phil Taylor led Ronnie Baxter 9-6 and 10-8. Baxter won 13-10.
