Considering John Boy was unseeded that year, in a unified field he may have played Taylor in Rd 1.

Many talk about the matchplay and gsod games with Lewis or the 09 worlds but for me it would be be the grand prix finals against part.
Ludicrous average on a much more challenging board.
It's really hard to pick just one. I'm going to mention one of his best as the 2008 Premier League semi final against Lewis in Cardiff, an 11-1 win with a 113 average. It doesn't get mentioned much. And yes, the World Grand Prix finals against Part were excellent, especially that crazy period in the 2003 final where it was a close 2-2 in sets match, and then Taylor raced away with the next 12 legs with a crazy standard.

PT have you ever masterbaited watching Taylor?

My memory suggests he was going off 160 with some frequency in that period of the game. Factor in the board that wins for me. I don't remember the place semi final. Suppose the PL final against wade has to be mentioned.

Taylor clearly had it on tap in 01,ready to go when needed.
As well as Walton played, the Taylor juggernaut was unstoppable this year.

Maybe in the Grand Prix, which has a bit of a tradition of shock first round defeats for Taylor (Painter, Callaby, Gray etc).

Les Fitton gave Taylor a scare at the 2001 PDC World Championship. Fitton won the first set and was competitive throughout, before Taylor won 3-1. Taylor remembered this match, beating Fitton 10-0 at the 2003 World Matchplay.

At the 2005 UK Open. In a race to 11 legs, Part led Taylor 4-0, 7-1 and 10-6. Taylor walked off at 10-10, thinking there was a break, as there had been after legs 5, 10 and 15. Part was fuming for the brief period that Taylor was off stage. Taylor won 11-10, and went on to win the tournament, winning 4 matches in a day. Part got his own back at the 2005 World Matchplay, beating Taylor 16-11 after trailing 1-4.

Yes, so it was, remember the game but not the venue.
Should you not change your name to pt16?

Nah, no need. I first registered with this name back in 2006 on the old Superstars of Darts forum, soon after Barney's switch to the PDC.

If he was unseeded, then there is a chance he wouldn't have even qualified in a unified field.

Taylor handled Les Fitton that year in round 2, who was averaging 96/97; just below what Walton was averaging in the early stages of Lakeside 2001. Taylor would have also gotten better as the game went on. Walton would have gotten worse. It might have been close if they met early on in the tournament; but I would still pick Taylor to prevail. He was the much better match player.

He's a great player. Easily the best ever.

I wouldn't say he is a great man.

Walton was a flash in the pan competing at that "level"
Only first qualified a couple of years before and was skudded by scholten.
He played very well in 01, the numbers say that, but beat a tried and tested player like Taylor over distance, im not having it.

highest average thrown against him was 97 in the second round, after that the competition was low 90s but in light of his performance understandable.
i remember the final, wasnt like part played badly.

in the bdo event hankey and walton played very well throughout throwing higher averages than anything taylor had faced but not matching him.

taylor was unbeatable this year for me.

taylor played wankers that year, justice, fitton, deller, askew!!!! part didnt raise a gallop in the final, john boy was magnificent that year, think john boy would have ran taylor close

He might have got a few sets.
Not a competitive animal or experienced enough then or now to beat Taylor.
I remember there game in Holland, Taylor was woeful, and still won 4-0.
