WELSH Open organisers incurred the annoyance of Scott Mitchell after he was dumped out of the Prestatyn tournament in the last 64.

Bransgore's former BDO world champion breezed through the early rounds, seeing off Paul Weir 3-0, Paul Hourihan 3-1 and Ken Bramall 3-0.

However, Mitchell's last-64 clash with Liam Meek took place on a board the Welshman had used in earlier rounds, rather than on neutral ground.

'Scotty Dog' was subsequently beaten 4-0 and could not hide his disappointment at an early exit.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo: "I was flying but then I got moved from one board to another and they weren't quite the same, and I struggled.

"The guy I played had been left on the same board all day. I didn't realise he hadn't moved until after the game, otherwise I'd have said something.

"The organisers should have put us on a neutral board for a group final. They messed up a bit and I did say that to them afterwards. They admitted they had made a mistake.

"When you have 64 boards up, it's very difficult to get them all exactly the same. It was just unlucky for me that I moved from one to another and there was quite a difference.

"It looks like sour grapes once you have lost but at the time I had no idea he had played on it."
