There's a willingness at the moment with sport's fans to dismiss the stars of yesteryear. The "rose-tinted glasses" argument has become so prominent, that the reverse is now true. Modern greats get overrated, while the stars of yesteryear become undervalued to a degree. Whatever is said about him, Chris Mason made an excellent point on Twitter. The top F1 drivers of 25-30 years ago (Senna' Prost, Mansell) are easily a match for the top drivers of today, and better than those who competed in the woeful Schumacher years.

Mason correctly pointed out that it's the same with darts. It's easy for newer fans to dismiss Bristow and Lowe by bringing up a wiki page, and pointing to averages, which ignore contextual details (boards, darts, etc) There's always a hint of double standards as well. The sought of fans who dismiss the Bristow era, will no doubt lionise the BDO ranks of the early 00's, as it suits their pro-BDO agenda. Hence that list of averages that Balboa posted on twitter, which ignored context
