No way MVG will ever win as many titles as Deta.

I think peak MvG is on a par with peak Philth when it comes to ability with high averages etc but he is nowhere near Philth, and never will be, in regards of achievements..
At the risk of sounding like Randall, you have to remember that MVG's best averages were set post-2015 when the boards were changed.

PT13 explains why that was such a factor here - viewtopic.php?p=1192420#p1192405

Even with the board changes, Van Gobin has never produced a tournament like Taylor did at the 2009 European Championship - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Euro ... ip_(darts)

Another thing Taylor has in his favour is longevity.

He was the outright best player in the world consistently from the early 1990s up until the early 2010s.

Peak Philth vs peak Baldfish is a close game, but I think Philth would prevail at the end. So, +1

Taylor was matching mvgs numbers on boards with trebles and doubles half the size
Ludicrous to say they are the same

Drawing merely from eye-test, I get the impression that Peak Taylor was more consistent than Peak MVG.

Thus, under a Matchplay format, I think Peak Taylor wins quite convincingly.

I don't think anyone is disputing that peak Philth is and will always be the greatest ever dart player....

But I don't think that peak Philth would wipe the floor with peak MvG day in and day out

MVG would win battles, but not the war, if that makes sense.

That's very balanced senna. Fair.

Now let's see what the author of The Ladybird Book of Big Doug makes of it. If he mentions Michael's tear ducts you owe me.
