The BDO's New Era, Deception and Delusion Courtesy of Deluxe

Post by M H » Thu Apr 14, 2016 3:24 pm

I'll start by giving full credit to my source, a very well known figure in the darts world for thinking out and executing this exercise brilliantly. Obviously his name cannot be disclosed.

It all started with an innocent enquiry to Deluxe:
Good morning.

I have been told through a friend (and seen on your Facebook page) that you organise summer garden parties.

Do you have any further information you can send me? It would be for around 100 people in August of this year, ideally somewhere in the Uxbridge or surrounding area.

Many thanks in anticipation!

[name removed]
Followed by a timely response:
Hi [name removed],

Thanks for the note.

Yes, we host 30+ Garden Parties a year, aswell as a number of Marquee's at
Race Courses. Our brand partners are MOET, Carlsberg and Britvic so our bars
are always popular. We also have over 100 preferred caterers who offer
anything Celebrity Chefs right through to Funky Street Food.

We supply the following from £25.00 per head:

* Free Bar to include Beers/Wines/Ciders/Spirits (Champagne extra)
* Marquee - Furniture - Lighting - Sound
* Choice of Caterers
* Entertainment (DJ's - Bands - Magicians - Kids Rides)

We even have a long list of Celebs who can help make the party even more
special.

All in all, we like to party!

Please give me an idea of what 'sort' of event it is and I can put together
a bespoke quote.

Thanks

Now before we go any further it's obvious the delusion is strong in this one, Ascot have already confirmed this crowd are unknown to them but let's move on.......
Thank you for the reply.

All the below sounds very interesting. At the moment I am just throwing ideas around our office. I don't know what locations in the Uxbridge area would be idea for a marquee, I only suggested that area as that is where our offices are based, do you have any suggestions yourself? It would have to be within a five mile radius of Uxbridge tube station.

The celeb angle is very interesting, many of us are into our sports. Do you have any celebrities from the world of football, snooker, darts or tennis available? And if so, who?

Many thanks

Just remember what I said earlier about Ascot .......
Hi [name removed],

Yeah, we have some lovely venue's across the region that we use to host events. Obviously some may carry with it a small fee and are dependant on dates but we have hosted Summer Parties at all the following:

* Windsor Race Course
* Ascot Race Course
* Stoke Park
* Alexander Park Windsor
* Runnymeade Hotel
* Hall Barn Estate Beaconsfield
* Gerrards Cross (Various options)

Where the 'Celeb' angle is concerned, we have direct access to 100's of footballers, rugby players, boxing and darts players. If we also add a Charity angle then this would help bring Celebs/Legends to the event. I think this is what makes us slightly different to other companies, we do not really advertise our services due to the unique database of clients we have.

Hope that helps. Just as an update, we are unavailable on the following dates:

14-18th June (Royal Ascot Silk Lawns)
25-27th June (Glastonbury - we host 4 bars)
01-03rd July (Gold Cup)
12-14th August (Champions Cup)

Thanks Donna
Read the above carefully and we've gone to delusion factor seven in one easy step, can this be beaten we wonder?
Hello.

Some of the locations are a fair distance from Uxbridge!Are you aware of any suitable locations a bit closer?

Regarding the celebs, I will have to guage from the others who they would be wanting. A fair few of them spent a week or so at the darts in Alexandra Palace back at Christmas so no doubt they will want to go down that angle, personally I have heard some snooker players are great after-dinner speakers: my father reliably informs me that Steve Davis and John Virgo were both a total hoot when they did a corporate event for his company Allied Dunbar back in the mid 90's. So if you are able to source anyone from either of those two arenas it would be pleasing; obviously I am aware of cost implications but that is not an issue. Can you suggest anyone from snooker or darts perhaps for the last two Saturday in August (21st or 28th)?

Regards

[name removed]
See here what my source is doing? Was a brilliant yet very simple response inviting Deluxe to up the delusion rating. Guess what? They did.
Hi,

Ok, let me ask the guy's in the Office as I do not know Uxbridge very well.

With regards Celebs, Jimmy White and Steve Davis have worked with us numerous times and we could back that up with a darts exhibition to include the likes of Gary Anderson (World Champion), Phil Taylor, Martin Adams, Andy Fordham, Ted Hankey etc. Very easy to arrange, even down to getting the stage/snooker table sorted.

Mike Tindal, Jimmy Bullard, Gaby Logan, Robbie Savage have all joined us at Ally Pally and Lakeshite so would just need to know a date and I can get a quote. Once you divide the costs as a per head amount I think it will be well within your budget. We have Virtual Casino services and of course we supply all the Food and Bars.

I can send you over some references in due course.

Thanks again.

Donna
Now I very much doubt this idiot has met Taylor but she's certainly learned how to name drop. Delusion factor up to eight

Here's the source reeling Deluxe in with numbers, best part of 100 people at £150 a pop is serious money
To be honest Gerrards Cross isnt too far away (my geography is a bit useless) and if its a venue you are already familiar with and have worked at before, maybe it would work better for you than having to deal with a new venue.

Let me get the opinions of everyone else and hopefully I will be back in touch with a preferred date (one of those Saturday days I mentioned in a previous email are probably the front runners but we are flexible, expecially with the latter being a Bank Holiday weekend) and ideal celebs in a day or so. At the last count I had 95 people to ask.

Many thanks so far

[name removed]
Followed up by another mail steering the conversation in the way we wanted.
Good morning.

Having canvassed popular opinion, the consesus seems to be for the following:

- Gerrards Cross area is more than acceptable, I shall leave the location up to you
- As it stands, any Saturday in August is currently fine, we have an even split of annual leave that month so no weekend will be 100% perfect. Happy to work around your own availablity. Of course the event would be an all day event from around noon onwards, to end at midnight.
- Marquee will be needed that comfortably seats 100 people, with outside networking space also available.
- "Barbeque" style food will be absolutely fine, given the time of year.
- An open free bar, with draught products, wine, soft drinks and standard spirits. We have no requirement for any free champage other than a welcome glass each at the start of the event. It is up to you whether you want to provide a paid alternative on top of this with premium spirits and champagne.

Regarding the entertainment at the event, the overwhelming desire in the office is for a darts stage to be set up and for people to be able to play a leg of darts with Phil Taylor. Would you be able to check his availability on the dates above? If unavailable, any of the current Top 10 in the world would be an acceptable alternative.
In addition, given the darts wont fill the entire day, we would also like quotes on the following:

- Motown-style band to play for at least 90 minutes
- DJ to play for a significant chunk of the day
- Some outdoor entertainment such as giant Jenga, adult bouncy castle etc...

Please get back to me with an idea of cost although as previously stated, cost is not an issue at this stage. In addition, one or two references (as promised in another email) would be appreciated before any contracts are entered into.

Many thanks

I pissed myself laughing when I first saw this. Delusion factor up to nine
Hi [name removed],

Thanks for this. All very easily achievable. I'll give Phil a call Tuesday as he has the Premier League tonight and we already have a fantastic Motown band called Soul Sensation who I will chat to. They done Crowne Plaza (Beaconsfield) for us.

I will comeback to you Tuesday afternoon with quote, availabiltiy, itinary and optional dates//venues.

Thanks again.

Donna

This also cracked me up but we've see "For Sure" before haven't we?
Hi [name removed],

Sorry for the delayed response, we were hosting the Bet365 room at Wembley last night so all rather manic.

Will put the quote together for you tomorrow for sure.

Thanks Donna
And here comes the package, kind of. Note the £149 per head and new mention of Revolution. Remember that name

Hi [name removed]!

I'll put this into a suitable quote in the morning (I'm off this week for half term) but here is an overall picture as to where we are at:

Venue: Gerard's Cross (Numerous options)
Date: 20/08 or 27/08 (12:00 - 03:00)
Travel: Return Coach Travel to/from Uxbridge
Package: Full Unlimited Bar (Beers/Wines/Spirits)
Food: All day Summer BBQ
Music: Soul Sensation + All day DJ
Entertainment: Virtual Casino + Adult Garden Games
Sport: VIP Darts Exhibition 15:00 - 19:00
AfterShow: VIP Area @ Revolution Beaconsfield
Revs Pack: Entry/Bubbly On Arrival/Cocktail/Pizzas
Guest: Special Celeb Guest for After Show Party

Cost per head @ £149.00 per head (Min numbers apply)

How does this look? We always supply transport as we feel it is essential guest get to the venue, then home safely.

Thanks Donna

A bog standard holding reply with a direct request for a player's name. Obviously we were hoping for Taylor even though he would be away with the WDS.
Sorry for the late reply, today has been manic.

All looks good so far, think the preference would be for the non-Bank Holiday weekend (the 20th). 95 attendees are currently on my list, there is scope for this to increase very slightly though but final numbers can always be confirmed a few weeks befofe.

Which player would be involved in said exhibition, just to clarify.

Other than that it looks great, you mentioned references in a previous email, given the amounts involved I would just like some peace of mind so any of those you have would also be great. Hopefully with us being able to confirm the 20th August as the date we want we can get a finalised quote sorted.

Look forward to hearing from you after the weekend.
Spoke to Matchroom my hairy arse but unfortunately all was not lost as will be revealed later
Hi [name removed],

Hope your well.

Spoke to Matchroom today and the Top8 PDC players are in Australia on the weekend of the 20/08? I have options on Martin Adams, Scot Mitchell, John Part, Andy Fordham, Ted Hankey, Daryl Fitton, Tony OShea, Eric Bristow, Bobby George?

Any of these lads of interest?

Thanks Donna
Can anyone think why BG was one of the names asked for?
The consensus seems to be for Bristow and George if they are available.

We're drawing towards a close with this trail but there's a lot more to come....
Hi [name removed],

I will sort that for you today.

Thanks Donna
After a few days, bingo
Hi [name removed],

Hope all is well. I can confirm that Eric and Bobby are available for the 20/08 so this could really turn out to be a really fun event. They have a MC, Music and of course your guests will play a leg with the Legends with lots of photo oportunities.

I have also spoken to Revolution and they confirm they will work woth us to make the after party very special with a special guest and cocktail making for your party.

If you wish to proceed I will send over the booking form with references as promised.
My source was very pleased to hear this as you can imagine. Donna didn't know what was going to happen next
Good timing as I was going to chase this up today

If you can send me over all the details I can take a look and then get them back to you ASAP

Many thanks

This is the mail with the quote attached, also a quick follow up
Hi [name removed],

Please find attatched the full details needed for your propsed event. I am just waiting on the final details of the three proposed venues but everything else on the list (including Eric v Bobby) is confirmed.

With regards references, as we deal with Private clients in the main I am happy for you to contact them direct (via email) and I am certain you will get a positive response. Noted below. JG is the ex Commercial Director of Wembley Staduim so not a bad client of mine to be fair.

Now we have Bobby George and Bristow confirmed. I wouldn't go as far to say Bobby's a mate but he is an acquaintance and we have been in contact before. Next up His confirmation they never contacted him.

Anyone who's had dealings with Bobby unless done face to face know they have to talk with Marie first.

Now it's my turn to do a few emails

Hi Marie,

Been a long time, hope you and Bobby are well.

May I ask a question about the “New Era’s” wonder boy Warren Brown, aka Deluxe?

Has Bobby been contacted about availability for an event in Gerrard’s Cross on 20th August?

Here I'm not going to post the full exchange as it's very lengthy but the first reply speaks volumes, make of it what you like.
Hi Martin,

Who are they?
A few mails were exchanged before I asked this

On 13 Apr 2016, at 20:44, MH <mh.thedartsforum@hotmail.co.uk> wrote:

Am I right in assuming they haven’t asked Bobby to do an event in August?

The answer was a plain and simple
Omg. No never heard from them. Where and what is the event??
Bristow's MC had contacted Marie about an event for Sage by a person called Sarah, I can quote part of Marie's mail about that as it's relevant to later.

Huh. I had a text from Eric's manager yesterday asking me if bobby was free!!! Didn't know what the event was. Couldn't give him an answer as bobby maybe doing EDITED. I wouldnt be able say yes or no till end of April! They lied!

Was here I felt we had enough to go with but thought a couple more steps to be certain

Remember Revolution, well I thought it prudent to give them a call as Deluxe may have arranged the most amazing after event experience. I really should have known better as the very pleasant lady who deals with bookings and enquiries said not only was there no enquiry for these dates she'd never heard of Deluxe.

Being the fair person I am I thought it only right I gave Deluxe the opportunity to answer some questions. I thought I was very polite.

Good afternoon Donna,

I introduce myself as owner and admin of www.thedartsforum.com, you're
probably aware of me already.

I've been aware of this enquiry from the beginning and have all the emails
ready to be published but before I do I have three questions you may wish to
answer:

1, Why are you now trading via Deluxe Sports Clubs and not De:Luxe SE?

2, Why has Bobby George no knowledge of this event yet you claim he's
confirmed?

3, Why have Revolution never heard of you or Deluxe let alone have no
enquiry for these dates?

I'll be publishing later this afternoon with or without any answers.

Regards
Martin

This was the answer from someone calling herself Fraser which was quite amusing.
Hi,

Fraser here.

Sorry, not sure who you are? Although when you say forums I vision dark rooms, people hiding behind make believe names, hating on the world as they have basically no life? Is that about right?

In relation to your comments, Jay spoke to Paul (MC to Eric) earlier this week and confirmed Eric/Georges availability? For the record we are also in Revolution on a daily basis.

On the other matter Martin, please feel free to email/call Warren.

I have to say, its all a little creepy your stalking and aggressive comments but i guess thats what forums are all about?

Can I call Paul and confirm we were part of a game created by a very 'strange' owner of a no-doubt very well respected darts forum? Sure Eric will appreciate this? Its all rather back fired somewhat Martin has it not?

Best Regards

Fraser
Now Marie said the person who contacted Bristow's MC was a girl called Sarah and even if they did call Bristow they didn't call BJ. I ignored the crap and again was most polite

Hello Fraser,

I’ve asked Warren about him trading through a Phoenix company and avoiding his previous debts but strangely he didn’t answer.

I’ve been in contact with Bobby these past two days and he insists he did not confirm availability. The only event Paul contacted him about was an event for Sage, clearly not this one.

I spoke with the person responsible for bookings and enquiries at Revolution and she has no knowledge of Deluxe or and enquiries for the dates in question.

Please feel free to call who you like as the name Deluxe in the darts world couldn’t be more toxic than it is now.

Regards
Martin

At last, the end of a saga and make of the final reply what you will. Is it a threat? Does it confirm all you've read so far?
Thanks Emma, sorry Martin. Getting me all confused now. That's if Martin is your real name?

Good luck Martin, Emma, Fred? Adam? Jimmy? I think your going to need it.

Fraser.
