PDC Media Release Re BDO
http://www.pdc.tv/news/article/1bg6t59z ... casino.com
22nd October 2009
BARRY Hearn has questioned the authority with which Olly Croft has turned down the PDC's £1m offer to buy the British Darts Organisation and inject an additional £1m into the grass roots of the game.
The Professional Darts Corporation's Chairman made the offer in an open letter to the BDO's shareholders - its 66 member counties - and directors on Tuesday, but quotes from Croft, whose position within the BDO is described on its official website as 'Founder', reject the offer out of hand.
-----------
Hearn however, believes that Olly Croft as a Director of the BDO has a formal duty to take the PDC offer to his shareholders (the counties) to make the final decision.
"I don't believe Olly Croft is in a position to turn down the offer," Hearn said. "The BDO claim they have a democratically elected board and a county structure that form their shareholders - so why don't they go through the proper procedures to discuss this offer?
"Croft's claims are laughable: the public don't buy his ideas about having the two best tournaments in the World and I would ask him to prove one recent instance of where the BDO has supposedly ploughed its profits back in to darts for the benefit of its players.
"The PDC subsidises tournaments for the benefit of our own players: we offer bigger prize money, more opportunities for television exposure, attract bigger crowds and stage superior events.
"These aren't even boastful claims - anyone who has seen the two products will know they are accurate statements.
"The PDC wants to preserve darts long in to the future. The fact that the top players broke away from the BDO in 1992 and players continue to desert them for the PDC shows that the BDO has failed to do this in the past and is failing to do so again.
"I'm interested in the response of the counties to both the PDC's offer and Olly Croft's claims. They are the real decision makers and we have already heard from some of them that they are fed up with the way their Inter-Counties system is run with ridiculous schedules and heavy costs for scant rewards.
"It is up to the Counties to accept or reject this offer and I am happy to personally sit down with all 66 of them to discuss our thoughts.
"But I'm afraid that through his statement Olly Croft has again proved himself to be out of touch with the modern game and incapable of taking darts forward, at either professional or amateur level."

PDC World Darts Championship: Dennis Priestley beaten by Ronnie Baxter
http://www.skysports.com/darts/news/122 ... nie-baxter
23rd December 2012
Dennis Priestley may have played his last match at the PDC World Championship after losing out against Ronnie Baxter.
Priestley, the first ever winner of the PDC world title, made a fight of it against his old rival and had chances to take the opening-round match into a deciding set before losing out 3-1 to The Rocket.
Baxter raced into a 2-0 lead, before six-time world finalist Priestley capitalised on six missed match darts from Baxter to hit tops and win the third set to stay alive.
It was not to be though and after missing three chance to take it all the way to a decider, Priestley went out of what looks like being his last World Championship after Baxter completed the win.
"I'm a little disappointed that when Ronnie gave me the chances I missed the double and could not take it into a fifth set," Priestley, now 62, told Sky Sports.
"I'm not going to set my sights very highly for next year, this one was just a little bonus. I've enjoyed the experience once again but I'm not going to push myself to do it again.
"It might be time to call it a day in the big TV events, but I'm still enjoying the darts and the exhibitions."
---------------
Meanwhile, Colin Lloyd survived an almighty scare to book his place in the second round as he beat American Darin Young 3-2 in the very last leg possible before being forced into a sudden death shoot-out.
'Jaws' trailed twice in the match but then on two occasions threw for the win in the decider - only for 'Big Daddy' Young to hit back and stay in the game. Lloyd finally sealed the win in the 10th leg in the fifth set.
-----------
There were no such problems for Justin Pipe, who completed an easy 3-0 win over former semi-finalist Andy Jenkins in the opening match on stage.
"It's only my second year on TV really so I've got to be able to deal with situations like that when I nearly let it slip when he was playing poorly and I was ahead," said Pipe. "I've got to work on my mental fitness if you like and keep my concentration levels high."
"The first round is so nerve wracking we just want to get up there and win our first round matches. Not everyone can hit 100 and 110 averages but you don't need to really, a 'W' is a 'W'."
The 2010 finalist Simon Whitlock got his campaign up and running with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Japan's Haruki Muramatsu, who had earlier beaten Dave Harrington of New Zealand 4-0 in a preliminary round match-up.

Bump for an old favourite.Rogg wrote:Ross Montgomery fired up by PDC director's derogatory tweet
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/loca ... c9ZV0Zk.97
23rd December 2014
ROSS ‘The Boss’ Montgomery reckons a derogatory tweet from a high ranking member of a rival darts organisation will fire him up for next month’s Lakeshite World Championships.
But the Greenhills thrower has also complained to top ranking officials at the Professional Darts Players Association (PDPA) over the incident.
Tommy Cox, who is the co-founder and tournament director of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Championships currently underway in London, took a pot shot at the 52-year-old last week when he poked fun at Montgomery’s record at the British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Championships.
Montgomery, who has gone as far as the second round at the Lakeshite in three of his seven appearances, saw his first round match at next month’s event brought forward from the evening of Sunday, January 4 to the afternoon to suit the television schedules.
And afterwards Cox tweeted on his Twitter account @TommyCox_PDC: “One bonus for the BBC, the new deal and the switched games means they will be able to cover the traditional first round exit of Ross the Boss.”
Cox later said on the same post: “And not nice of him to continually deride the PDC and anyone who crosses over, especially not nice from one who has won 0.”
---------------------------
But Ross, who has 14 titles to his name including the Zuiderduin Masters, told the News: “Little does he know things like that only fire me up, so hopefully I can shut him up at the Lakeshite.
“He seems to think I ridicule PDC players, but that’s not the case at all. I know players who have gone to the PDC and done ok, but there’s lots of people that think they are way above their station. They have done nothing on the BDO side of the game before moving on and I think it’s wrong.
“They should learn in the BDO – in the ‘amateur’ game that the PDC call us – before they move over because so many players move, achieve nothing and then plead to get back to the BDO.
“His other part of the tweet, saying I had won nothing, shows he obviously hasn’t checked the history of my achievements.”
--------------------
Ross believes Cox has broken Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) rules on social media conduct and has emailed a complaint to PDPA chairman Peter Manley and chief executive Andrew Warriner-Little.
The DRA guidelines state figures in the sport should not “talk negatively about other competitors, countries, organisations or brands” and warns “remember that you are an ambassador for your sport.”
Montgomery added: “He’s breaching DRA rules about social media comments. You are not allowed to speak badly of other organisations or other players.
“I’ve emailed the PDPA but I haven’t received a reply yet.”
A spokesman for the PDC said: “The twitter account referred to is the personal account of Tommy Cox and does not represent the views of the PDC.
“The profile of the account clearly states that views are his own.
“Any hypothetical breach of the PDC’s social media policy would be dealt with internally.”

Nine times world champion Trina Gulliver crashed out of the championship, whitewashed 2-0 by Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova in just 31 minutes.
In a repeat of the 2008 world final, the Somerset third seed failed for the first time to reach the final as the unseeded East European played mind games to topple the Golden Girl.
Arrogance and self confidence exuded from the Russian but Gulliver let her darts do the talking, as took the opening leg against the throw after Dobromyslova missed 10 doubles.
A maximum steered the Golden Girl to the next, the snarling black-shirted Russian taking the third on double 12 and in the fourth she set the pace, levelling the match on double 12 and turning to salute the crowd, the Somerset player bemused by her opponent's behaviour.
Dobromyslova, clearly slowing the game and playing the crowd, missed double 18 for a set-winning double 18 and a further three for the same double but it was catching - Gulliver missing bull for 81 to steal the set. The Russian made no mistake on her return to the oche, nailing double 18.
The unseeded player – who beat Gulliver in the 2008 world championship seemed to grow in confidence with her mind games over the tense nine times world champ, who fluffed darts for doubles in the opening leg of the second as the Russian exited on 56.
Gulliver was first to the double in the next leg but missed double five for 95, Dobromyslova missing bull for 121. The Golden Girl missed a further two chances as the underdog clinched her favourite double 12 to move within a leg of victory.
Again in the third, the player from Cheddar requiring 105 saw her form desert her as she hit 92, opening the door for Dobromyslova to move into her second final with a match-winning 50.
Both players failed to hit the 24 per dart average, illustrating the tension which had affected both competitors.

A glorious crisp early spring morning in the North West of England, the birdsong from the trees was cruelly interrupted by the brash, nonchalent snoring emanating from the bed of the snarling Russian as she tossed and turned with relentless abandon in her cesspit of a bed.
The alarm went off at 9am, Anastasia tossing the clock across the room in an arrogant sweep of her arm, with scant disregard for the item which was lovingly made in Warwickshire by the indigenous population.
On her way out of the house, Ana snarled at the picture hanging up in the wall, the one of the Lakeside photo call from early January. The image of the Golden Girl had been tainted by the addition in marker pen of big, thick black pair of sunglasses and a cancer stick hanging from her mouth.
Ana's only appointment today was to sully the doorstep of her local supermarket. Being of peasant extraction and susceptible to thrift, Ana always went to her local branch of Lidl.
Ana prowled up and down each isle in her quest for food and drink items, with no respect whatsoever for the other shoppers. A bunch of bananas was selected and dismissed with a tut and a sigh, nothing else appealed to the black shirted Cossack so off she went with no intention of fulfilling her five a day fruit/veg requirements, two fingers up to the British Government advice many of us live our daily lives by.
Ana paid for her goods on a Mastercard, increasing the massive credit burden on the country all for the sake of a few groceries which no doubt would be scoffed later on by the Eastern European. She flounced out of the store and returned to her hovel, for some reason pleased with her achievements.
Ana had no appointments for the rest of the day, which was taken up with her slouched on the sofa, making prank calls to various towns and villages in Cambridgeshire.
