It was the night he got his career back on track. Another thing he has is the ability to take a session 5-0, 4-1 and sometimes go on a 6/7 leg run. No one else can do that.
That was a Taylor trademark for years. An example is the 2008 World Matchplay final. Trailing a brilliant Wade 4-7, Taylor won 18-9. In the 2013 World Championship final, MvG had darts to go 5-2 up and failed. Taylor's form got better and better and he won 7-4. The Power surge.

Taylor against Anderson saw this Taylor return for one evening. But no more.

Taylor's flat off year in 2015, combined with MvG truly dominating 2015, seems to mean that Taylor has lost that edge over MvG. Taylor missing all those match darts in the Masters match, the Premier League final battering and now the World Matchplay final defeat, has only made this worse.

after Taylors last big win the matchplay in 2014 he threw a 106 average against Wade in the Unibet Masters and Wade still beat him, after that he got beaten again by Wade , this time in the quarters of the Grand Prix as Wade made the final.
Wade beat Taylor in the 2015 Matchplay semi final over a long distance in 2015, so this rubbish that without MVG he would be cleaning up is just that.
Also not only has taylor dipped but guys like Wade have improved, as he has a great record recently against MVG.

Taylor might have won a comp or 2, without MVG in the field, but no fucking way would he have cleaned up.

Rogg wrote:Heh, that's true. This year MvG has knocked Taylor out of Masters semis (missed about 7 darts for the match?!), UK Open semis (was 6-3 up or something?), Premier League final (battered) and Matchplay final (humiliated).

Nobody else was able to stop Taylor in any of those. Would Chizzy have beaten him in the Masters final? Wright in the UK Open final? I doubt it. Take MvG out of 2016 and Taylor is cleaning up the TV titles IMO.
Exactly. 2015 is a different matter, as they didn't meet much last year and Taylor wasn't really right mentally as MvG dominated most of the year. In 2016, MvG is stopping Taylor winning multiple TV titles.

If Taylor had won that Masters match, it's probably a very different year. MvG would be more doubtful about Taylor, Taylor would be more positive that he could beat MvG despite having such a bad year prior. It might be too late now for Taylor to halt the tide, even temporarily. MvG looks more like a dominant champion than ever, while the Taylor winning machine malfunctioned last night and everyone saw it.

In 2016, Taylor would be cleaning up without MvG. Not 2015.

The 2016 World Championship doesn't count, because Taylor's mentality there was probably worse than any other. But since the 2016 Premier League, it's been MvG stopping him winning TV tournaments.

Who would have beat him? Does anyone else beat him over first to 18 legs in Blackpool, even in 2016?

Wade has beaten Taylor at blackpool.

But the original point was without MVG Taylor would have cleaned up, and whilst he may have won a few the previous few months of this year, in the remainder of 2014, almost all of 2015 and the biggest comp of 2016 he was shit, beaten by many other than MVG.

Yes MVG is a huge factor, buts is far from the only factor, its not like after MVG he was the second best in the world cos he was not.
And fuck the PL no one counts them as majors not even I count Wades PL win as a major

Taylor should team up with Baxter now and just do legends exhibitions.

Love them or hate them, two greats of the game who will still draw in the crowds wherever they go :D

Finally got caught up watching these matches. It is official Taylor is in the pocket of MvG now. It was great to see Taylor melt down from the pressure. Taylor has had some melt downs but typically they don't happen on stage that way, they happen in the interview after, and usually after a win. Thinking of Mason, King, Barney to name a few.
