I'm sure darts fever is going to sweep over the 17 people that watched the event in Japan.

The most notable thing about the BDO Youtube streams in this context is that the audience always rises by a few thousand when a Japanese player is on stage, and then promptly falls back to normal levels for the next game. These folks may tune in for half an hour, but they don't give a crap about the overall events and I bet the vast majority have no idea what the BDO even is. It's the ultimate case of "support" that's a mile wide and an inch deep.

All this talk of Japanese boom in darts is forgetting one thing. Darts over there is soft shit, this is run by the companies. The business model fundamentally is to get people playing on their machines. If they are playing steel they are not putting money in those machines.

The soft companies will use this to legitimize the soft shit as being just as good as proper darts competitively. They may introduce steel tip machines at the higher end of the game but my guess they will still push newbies, leagues, and average players on the soft machines. So steel darts will be the smaller segment of the market by far and controlled by the soft tip companies.
