Agreed. The PDC would eventually have surpassed the BDO. They would have done so with a much more professional run organisation, better TV deals, and a better talent pool, which would have continued to grow even if it weren't for Barney.sennafan24 wrote:Taylor vs Barney helped the PDC's growth, but so did numerous other things; SKY's presentation, Sid's commentary, and Wayne Mardle. The Premier League debuted before Barney as well. The PDC's growth would have been slower without Barney; but I suspect that they would grown and clearly surpassed the BDO nevertheless. They had the right ideas .limegas wrote:sennafan24 wrote:How could Olly say he was right in 2004?
PDC was a fixture on SKY by then, and had plans for the future (PL, etc). Several notable players had jump ship to the PDC. It was also commonly acknowledged that the PDC had the best player. It's not like the PDC was dying a death or in limbo.
Which isnt true. Taylor was thrashing his opponents with ease and was beginning to get bored. The turning point was Barney going to the PDC, If Barney did an Adams and stayed what would have happened
The facts are that the PDC had a sizeable slice of the top-end of the game by 2004. Olly Croft's BDO was not the only game in town anymore.
With Barney switching, the PDC got ahead of the BDO in 2007. Without him switching, they would have had to wait a few more years. No big deal. It was only the final nail in the coffin, very far from being the only reason.
