John Lowe M.B.E. @jloweprodart
Here I go, Glen Durrant having to go to Q School ! It’s only a few years ago when the PDC invited BDO winners to swap allegiance, Glen wins the Championship 3 Succesive times, And he has to prove himself, respect a great champion.

Barry Hearn @BarryHearn
Glen knows the rules. Q school starts on Thursday.

MARK WILLIAMS M.B.E @markwil147
You can do anything you like sir Barry

John Lowe M.B.E. @jloweprodart
Tried my best Mark, I thought Glen would be a great compliment to the PDC, now to see him not qualify would be disrespect to all BDO World Champions, and there are many.

Surprised Lowe takes that view to be honest.

I wonder why it would be disrespect from PDC if lakeside champ is not good enough to qualify?

I'm not. Lowe was a fine player in his day and his day was pretty long. Lowe is an old man who is trying to keep the last vestige of his history relevant. Seems he chimes in every chance he gets when no one asks him his opinion. He can't wrap his head around the idea that this is genuine professional sport in the modern era. Every one has to jump thru the same hoops, no getting special treatment for winning a paper championship.

Durrant won't shift any extra tickets nor will he get anyone else watching PDC darts. This isn't 2006 where everyone is salivating at the prospect of the best BDO player making the switch and taking the fight to the best in the PDC. There's no point moving heaven & earth for someone who has so little value on the product. He's going to be one of very, very many.

Don't see why any hand outs should be given to the BDO Amateur Champion. It's more of an achievement to make the 3rd Round of the PDC Worlds so you shouldn't just hand them out for winning a piss poor Lakeshite.

Respect a great champion, give a tour wild card to John Part. Or something.

Oh joy, a variation on the "18 darts are as good as 16" excuse.

The only real comparison is last 32 down but I doubt that will be mentioned

Imagine going on about darts as much as he does yet knowing so very little.

So the reigning Champion pisses on the standard of the tournament during his coronation, yet the inmates of the BDO asylum still yell that the difference between the codes is negligible.

I can't decide if I find that grudgingly admirable or absolutely pitiful.

Btw it's strange what the best player in the BDO is permitted to win without it becoming boring. MVG is yawn while Glen is simply quality player doing his thing.

Surely the PDC has been called 'Phil's Darts Club' while Taylor was looming less large in his respective org than Durrant in the last 3 years.

Your wasting your time trying to understand the workings of the gimp mind.

It seems even John Lowe has fallen behind the times in this regard. It isn't pre-2011 anymore, or even 2014.

From 2011-2014 (so as recently as 2014), the PDC took Lakeside seriously enough to offer the semi finalists automatic PDC tour cards for the following 2 years, which only Hankey in 2012 and Bunting in 2014 took up. Since Bunting switched, the dynamics have shifted completely, which have only been exacerbated by the 2016 deluxe scandal and Lakeside going off the BBC, and now off Channel 4 as well.

Basically, Bunting's switch was the end game in regards to the PDC actively pursuing BDO players. Now the attitude from the PDC to potential switchers is "You know what to do if you want to be in the PDC". In most cases, that attitude has been applied since the introduction of the tour card system in 2011, so those first few years afterwards (2011-2014) where Lakeside semi finalists got automatic PDC tour cards for the next 2 years was merely a transition from the pre-tour card days before 2011 to where we are now.

This process has been in work since at least 2010, when the BDO turned down Barry Hearn's takeover bid.

Remember the guy that wrote the nonstop seethathon masquerading as betting advice before the Lakeside?

Chris Hammer
@ChrisHammer180
Amazing achievement for Glen Durrant.

Not only the first man since Eric Bristow to win the BDO World title three years running but also the first to be 100% from three Lakeside finals.

Legendary status.

Chris Hammer
@ChrisHammer180
"Just remember Eric Bristow won it when it was a unified organisation. I know I'm not playing Michael Van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Gary Anderson, the works."

Humble quotes from Glen Durrant but whether he plays it down or not, he's still a Lakeside legend

-----

You can just tell from the follow-up that he struggled to square Durrant's words with what he himself believes about the "legend", heh.
