"Glen Durrant (24 November 1970 - 20 January 2019) was an English darts player. He was the reigning 2019 BDO World Darts Champion, and had won the title for three consecutive years. He was also a 2-time World Masters and 3-time Finder Darts Masters champion. Durrant was declared dead by the mushrooms on 20 January 2019"

Elliot J. Cornish @ElliotJCornish 7h
The way Durrant talks about the BDO, "Lakeside Championship", "Q School being as big as winning it", does more to devalue it as a world championship than discussion about averages. Compare that to how the other recent three-time champion Adams regarded it.
Oche Balboa @OcheBalboa1
I don’t think he said “Lakeside Championship” at all. That’s the PDC adding that.

He wants to take adams opinion seriously because it parrots his own blinkered views.

Re: Rogg's Twatter Watch
Yeah, the averages themselves are the problem with Lakeside, not the fact that it features almost none of the world's best players anymore... That aside, it's only possible to devalue something with comments like Durrant's if its value is artificially inflated (otherwise nobody relevant would take those comments seriously), but I doubt the likes of Cornish are smart enough to pick up on that.
It's all got a touch of "don't talk about the war" about it.

Re: Rogg's Twatter Watch
The BBC and the PDC reported seemingly the same comments. The BBC version is a compressed version but there is a difference in the first line. If anything the PDC may have upgraded what he actually said.

PDC:"This is as good as winning the championship at Lakeside," said Durrant.
"There was so much pressure on me. Thankfully I got the job done and I'm immensely proud of what I've achieved."
"This is as good as winning the Lakeshite Championship," said former Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finalist Durrant.
"I'm going through so many emotions right now, I'm so happy and relieved to get through because there was so much pressure on me to do this.
"When I looked around the venue I noticed that a lot of people were watching my matches, and I also put a lot of pressure on myself.
"Thankfully I got the job done and I'm immensely proud of what I've achieved. Now I'm looking forward to my exciting future with the PDC."

You only have to look at Dean Reynolds to see what rejecting a Tour Card can do to you.

Re: Rogg's Twatter Watch
I don't think for one minute imagine that this person would refuse his tour card after all, but what's the protocol if they do? Is it even possible at this stage with Q-School all finished now?

I doubt it is Duzza.
He has just re-signed with his old management company. Who always wanted him to switch to the PDC. He'd be pissing off a lot of people if he changed his mind.

I presume so he can tell us for the 123th time that Duzza once said on this forum that he would be swallowed up in the PDC

My first guess was Kirk Shepherd, because why not?

Re: Rogg's Twatter Watch
I can understand Martin Adams not playing the Grand Slam in 2007, because it clashed with the World Masters. Even though every other BDO player at the time who was invited to the Grand Slam that year chose the Grand Slam over the World Masters, I can understand Adams choosing the World Masters.
However, in 2008 and 2009, there were no excuses for Adams turning down the Grand Slam, beyond an old grudge dating back to late 2001 when Barry Hearn told all darts players that if they wanted to continue playing in the World Matchplay and World Grand Prix from 2002 onwards (and the new Las Vegas Desert Classic), then they'd have to play the World Championship at the Circus Tavern in future and not at Lakeside, resulting in the Skol Six defections (Beaton, Baxter, Mason, Painter, A. Jenkins, Williams), while Adams refused to join the Skol Six and had nothing to do with the PDC again until 2015. Adams liked the 1997-2001 detente situation after the Tomlin Order, where you only had to chose which World Championship to play in while you could play all events on both sides of the divide otherwise, but Barry Hearn had ambitious business plans for the PDC after becoming PDC Chairman in July 2001.
An irony is that Scott Waites would never have gotten into the 2009 Grand Slam if Adams had accepted his invitation that year. It's an interesting what if.
