I know most disagree here but I always defended the BDO players being in the Slam and I do like the group format.

It's a bit of a lottery (there I said it) compared to other major first rounds but it's more entertaining IMO. From the last 16 onwards the games are long so it's not like you can fluke your way into the business end.

As for the BDO players for me they still spice up the event. I know others are more deserving but for the casual viewer it's still a point of interest. Maybe reduce it to 5-6 players. (include the women world champ in that if you want, I personally wouldn't mind it) The PDC floor qualifiers are a much bigger problem with the event IMO. If you want to include some regional winners (which is an idea I support), I'd rather lose some floor warriors than the BDO lads.

The World Masters kinda proved that some of those players are still capable of producing an entertaining game. They could definitely do decent in the Grand Slam, even if reaching the last 8 is unlikely for anyone bar Durrant.

After the weekend im more encouraged about bdo participation.
It has to be merited though, if they continuously fail to get out of the group's it can't be justified.

Agree there, at least it's something different, pretty much every game matters, but it's not single elimination, it is more interesting the rather samey TV events we see throughout the year. BDO lads are hit and miss, obviously on their day they are capable, it's just that their day doesn't happen often enough. Still, most of them are on a decent run of form, fancy Unterbuchner to do something in particular. I too would like to see more international players in the GSOD, they're getting stronger all the time, and three matches on stage would be a great experience for some of the less experienced guys. Unfortunately I don't see them getting rid of the floor qualifier, even if it's looking more interesting than normal this year so far
