None of the chasing pack seem to be making much ground unfortunately
Maybe not very visible at the moment but it'll be squashing up soon.

For one thing Wilson isn't even a provisional seed for Ally Pally. Remember he had that great run at the back end of 2016. That SF-SF-QF-F sequence on the floor with an ET semi-final in between. Good TV money too.

Good point. It would be nice to see Dobey, Wattimena, Dimitri and Hopp force there way into the 32.
Maybe Cadby too if he hurries up and returns to the tour.
For the likes of Not so big Ron, JDZ and JDG it will have to be next year I think

This is that Main OoM Ally Pally race according to darts database.
Dobey and Dimitri in the frame to be seeds, plus both are currently in the pro tour spots. Ages to go but possibilities!

Oh dear, Benito and Bunting are quite bad in the rankings. Same with Kyle Anderson, doesn't seem to make too much progress lately. To be honest surprising to see Thornton still scraping it

Think 67th is higher than where JDZ was ranked when he lost his card with 2 years of money on the board. What a tranformation.

Burton DeWitt @bsd987
Jeffrey de Zwaan rockets up to #67 in the world with his first PDC title. Jonny Clayton has jumped Steve Beaton to reach a new career high ranking of #23. Benito van de Pas will drop out of the top 16 next week if he does not qualify to ET5.

I do wonder if anyone actually thinks that Gurney is a better player than Chizzy or Smith, despite being the first of the three to win a major. Darts can be a strange game sometimes.

I think Gurney is a better player than Chizzy. He is also a bigger cunt.

The latter part is indisputable, the former is dubious. Would you consider Gurney to be a better player than Jenkins? If Chizzy was to win one major (bearing in mind that he has had multiple finals and multiple t.v victories over MVG, Taylor and Anderson, which Gurney has not) would that make him a better player than Gurney?

Gurney is a better player than Chizzy right now, no question about that.

As for their careers so far, you could say Chizzy has the edge as Gurney hasn't got much to show besides his WGP title. However, Gurney has only been a top player for a year while Chizzy has spent 5-6 years in or about the top 10. So the comparison is massively unfair on him.

Basing it purely on Gurney having won a major. Sure he got a bit lucky with the draw, but give Chizzy that same draw and he still would have choked.

Gurney is also younger and should win a few more majors, whereas Chizzy will likely retire with the same number of majors as The Bull.

Burton DeWitt @bsd987
Simon Whitlock back into the top 8, as Steve Lennon moves into the top 50. First time in Order of Merit history that Kevin Painter drops out of the top 50.

Whitlock is in miserable form yet moving up.

Everyone around him is failing too
7th to 20th is looking pretty grim tbh
No player is looking likely to break into the top 10 at the moment
I keep thinking Cullen and Kando will do it but they keep blowing their chances

Neither has the consistency I'm afraid

Are Cross (3) and Gurney (5) not enough to be getting on with? Both might seem part of the furniture now but only 10 months ago at the last Matchplay both were non-seeds.

True, Smith should overtake Whitlock and chizzy soon but he has blown a couple of ranking money opportunities when he has had it handed to him
on the 2017/18 OOM smith is 6th, above Whitlock and Mensur

Good point, and with the batch of new young players breaking in and around the top 50 I suppose next year will see some changes. Just a shame that most of the top 10 don't seem to be playing well enough to challenge for titles at the moment . The Matchplay should be quite an open tournament with the new faces and a great chance for a few guys to earn some serious ranking money

I think you goats seriously underestimate how well Chizzy is going to do in the t.v events this year. I can see a final in the matchplay, a semi in the WGP and winner in the pc and euro finals. It will be odd if he isn't top 4 by the end of the year.

Quoted for future reference.
