That is the verdict of the disciplinary committee following an investigation launched after Dimitri van den Bergh and Mike De Decker filed a complaint against their compatriot.
Van den Bergh had filed a complaint just prior to the much-discussed World Cup of Darts in June. During Belgium's first match, Van den Bergh and Huybrechts did not give each other a glance.
According to reports by Het Nieuwsblad, a 'threatening' comment made by Huybrechts was behind it. "Mike, who knows you might still throw the World Cup this year. You never know when someone falls down the stairs," Huybrechts allegedly said in front of De Decker.
In November, a complaint was also filed by De Decker himself against Huybrechts. After finishing a floor tournament, both players were waiting for their transportation to the airport. There, Huybrechts allegedly slapped Decker's face. Het Nieuwsblad has a video of the skirmish that followed.
Huybrechts behaved aggressively and inappropriately, according to the disciplinary committee. So in addition to the 1,500-pound fine, he also received a formal warning. That means Huybrechts faces a suspension if another incident occurs.
A video of the November incident:The footage was taken in early November in Barnsley, during one of the last floor tournaments. Both gentlemen were waiting outside the gaming room for their taxis when Huybrechts attacked De Decker.
Huybrechts - who had just lost a match - punched De Decker in the face. The latter did not respond, while Huybrechts had to be restrained so as not to attack his fellow darts player again.
“I will destroy you,” The Hurricane shouted several times to The Real Deal. Huybrechts accused De Decker that his mother had 'threatened' his family. “I swear, this has been on my mind for a long time. You are the first on my list. And your mother too.” De Decker then filed a complaint.
About this alleged 'threat', they say in De Decker's camp that everything revolves around a critical Facebook message from Dana Verhaegen, Huybrechts' wife. De Decker's mother then called and it turned out that the message was addressed to her son Mike. She then made it clear that she was not okay with her son being publicly (and, in her opinion, unfairly) exposed. That was apparently taken as a threat. Then the ball started rolling, with the known consequences.
