Quite amazing really considering there's a huge pool of darts players who play soft-tip almost exclusively - you'd think it must be practically inevitable that some talented player would come up eventually who absolutely stomps the competition (as e.g. Bunting did to the similarly second-grade BDO), but nobody ever does.
As far as I've seen, the games are usually played at a very short format. And the half of the game is 701 where they are only shooting the bulls which is much "easier" than playing steel tip legs. That's why I think there is no player who could truly dominate the circuit, because this gives much more room for surprise results.

The increased size of the targets and the use of bull levels the playing field.

Sure, the 01 legs are a total crapshoot when the large bull is in use, but the cricket legs leave plenty of room for superior players to rise above the field. (I'd say a competitive cricket leg is about equal to two legs of 501.) Best of 7 / best of 9 in steel-tip isn't really any longer, yet we get guys like Bunting and Durrant in the BDO or Rob Cross on the Challenge Tour.

Soft-tip players never really seem to develop beyond a certain level, which I'd equate to about 80-85 averages in steel - good darts but not anywhere near world class. The prize money on offer is pretty decent and the distribution is also very top-heavy, so the rewards for a dominant player would be quite big. Adrian Gray was less than an also-ran in the PDC and immediately became a top 16 quality soft-tip player when he changed a few years ago; a player capable of the soft-tip equivalent of 90 steel averages would probably crush the fields, but nobody ever develops that much.

Curious as to what you believe are the reasons that players in the soft tip side of the things don't seem to develop.

Paul Lim continues to make good money beating up on average darts players, winning $15,000 in today's Dartslive World tournament.

It's about time Edward Lowey fucked off the yawning fat tub of shit
Let Gary Plummer keep the idle cunt in hair transplants until he hangs up his darts.....or himself preferably.
