Re: Random Dart Stuff
He did. Against Barney's dead body. It was bleak. A horrible idea.
The 1994 play-off was best of 9 sets, according to wiki... imagine that. I'm assuming it's sets. Steve Brown beat Evison 5-1.

I don't know why they ever did third place play offs. They even did them in the FA Cup for 5 years, 1970-1974. Only the Manchester United vs. Watford one at Highbury in 1970 is remembered, really.

There were ranking money consequences on that Barney-Webster play-off but... well, you just can't care. Hearn admitted it was a mistake and that was that.

Re: Random Dart Stuff
Yes, they're real. I remember 1998 with Harrington and Deller. The other 2 (1997, 1994) less so, although the commentators always mentioned Steve Brown (the American originally from Surrey, not the Bristolian) finishing third in 1994 for years afterwards. As late as the 2003 World Championship, Brown played a brilliant set against Phil Taylor (3-0 in legs) although Taylor won the match 4-1.

Boom found something about the famous 1999 Scania Open
https://web.archive.org/web/19991129050 ... ndex2.htmlADAMS TAKES TAYLOR FOR THE TITLE
Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor staged an impressive comeback to 5-4 after being 5-1 down to Adams, only to see the match slip from his grasp when he failed to double out in 7 darts.
Losing 5-1 and at match point for Adams, Taylor unleashed a barrage of 140’s and several 180’s wiping the remaining balance with a one dart check each time. As the pressure mounted so Adams game diminished.
Taylor was set to win a fourth consecutive leg when he missed a double 8 check for an out shot of 136. With Adams not yet on a finish, Taylor was assured a return to the oche for a second attempt.
Three darts later, Taylor still had 4 points outstanding. Adams also failed to close his balance of 32 for the match leaving 16 on the board and Taylor a third opportunity.
This check out was not to be however, and when Martin Adams returned he made no mistake in pegging double 8 with his second dart.
Hot contender Rod Harrington lost his quarter final duel with Holland’s Roland Scholten. A match that went the distance and which Rod let slip when he miscalculated an outshot giving Scholten the extra opportunity needed.
Earliest ‘pro’ casualty of the day was Alan Warriner who crashed to Peter Wahlsten in the last 64 before he in turn went out to Bjerne Jensen of Denmark.
Best performances by ‘young guns’ were Colin Lloyd and Alex Roy who both made the quarter finals. Lloyd losing to Phil Taylor and Roy losing to Adams after experiencing an exceptional number of bounce outs.

I remember Barney being even less motivated than he is on the tour, but Webby was absolutely buzzing, I seem to recall that extra £20k got him into the top 32 for the first timeRogg wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 5:22 pmDid they?! Re: Random Dart Stuff
They could bring in 3rd place playoffs so finals day wouldn't be so underwhelming. It needs some freshening up. Poor cunts who paid a hundred quid for their tickets to see Lice batter Krusty who averaged 90. Can't imagine they were happy about that

You talk like it was a foregone conclusion. Part and Mardle both backed Wright to win before the match.

Re: Random Dart Stuff
Well, I do enjoy insulting the clown but you completely missed the point. The final needs to be a significantly longer format or they have to do something to make it an occasion. Otherwise it could turn out to be underwhelming. A chance of a one sided final is always there.
