I bet the other 15 players in the tournament are thrilled that Taylor will take the 10 million yen top prize, considering everybody else will only win 8 million yen combined.

Interesting that it says the Top 4 players on the Order of Merit will be going to Ally Pally.skweezit wrote:this is the tour paul lim was talking about

Re: Random Dart Stuff
That 4 has got to be misprint. Hearn mentioned expanding the field for ally pally. But 4 from Asia? Over the years they have been pretty much shit, can't see them inviting 4. If they do 4 how many from the DPA and DPNZ? Have the Asian officials let the cat out of the bag here?

There were 4 from Asia this year:cannibal wrote:That 4 has got to be misprint. Hearn mentioned expanding the field for ally pally. But 4 from Asia? Australasia should have more representation than Asia.

I bet it's going to be at least 6 from Asia now. They're not going to scrap the Chinese and Japanese qualifying circuits, so those will be in addition to the 4 from this new tour.

Re: Random Dart Stuff
All depends on how many spaces will actually be available. I recall someone asked Hearn on Twitter if there would be 80, and he said no. You'd have to imagine that the Australasian tour would be bumped up if they're going down this routeFiss Plaps wrote:There were 4 from Asia this year:cannibal wrote:That 4 has got to be misprint. I just hope this Asian Order of Merit replaces those qualifiers so we don't get an out-of-proportion Asian representation at the Worlds.

Re: Random Dart Stuff
4 from one series is far to many given they don't have the depth of talent. 6 is 2 too many from Asia. The thing is the WC is an event that has to serve many purposes. It is one of the largest promotional tools for the PDC and needs legitimacy as a world event. It also serves as the pinnacle of the PDC darts and that activity is mainly based around the isle and a few countries in western Europe. At this time the two purposes are working against each other as the standard isn't there from Asia. Add to that the whole PDC model is about increasing probability of success by increasing participation that is mainly centered on the tour.
PDC is imho at a cross roads. Darts is a legitimate pro sport centered in the UK, NL, GER, area. Either they have to commit to saying come to us if your a pro or aspire to be one, Come to us means come play the pro tour full time. Or they need to commit to developing a larger global product with PDC tours in say the far east, Americas, etc. This approach is the harder of the two, more expensive, and far more lucrative.
So far the PDC is dabbling somewhere in between these two. I think they want the global but not sure they want to commit the resources to it. The middle won't work for long as the continued lack of real progress in standard from the affiliate tours won't provide players to the pro tour who can succeed nor will it give the countries the heroes they need to crack son of those markets for TV. The affiliate tours don't offer enough events with enough players of a high standard to have a cauldron of enough intensity to cook up some quality players.
Committing to the global option more than likely is going to mean the PDC is going to have to invest 15 years in developing another tour with dozens of events regionally with good money sunk into them. Then the best players from their will be playing the top PDC guys in WSOD events, getting them to the slam, and ally pally. But these players would hopefully have a better shot at being legit contenders. The DPA is sort of doing this, the one thing I think they get right is they are playing a lot of events in their system. They need more bigger staged events, and the WSOd should tie better into it in giving the DPA players the spots and getting them to GSOD based on DPA performances. They should also consider spots in the UK open for them.

Love how cricket darts isn't a thing in the countries that actually play cricket, yet it is in America
