SKIPPER Scott Mitchell delivered a record-breaking performance as England’s men clinched the BDO British Internationals. The Bransgore-based thrower edged out Wales’ Jim Williams 4-3 to help his country secure a draw before blitzing Scotsman Ryan Hogarth 4-0 in the decisive tie in Glenrothes. Mitchell’s 111.33 average against Hogarth was the third highest overall and highest ever by an Englishman in the event’s 40-year history. And the 48-year-old took great pride in this achievement.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “When you think of the legends who have played for England – John Lowe, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller, Cliff Lazarenko, Bob Anderson – and the recent players – Glen Durrant and Martin Adams – it is pretty special to be the one above all of them.

“Anything to do with your country is great to achieve. It was my 40th cap for England which is another milestone.

“After my first one I never thought I would get another. When you wear an England shirt you do not feel like it is yours forever – you feel like you are keeping it warm for the next person.” Mitchell’s victory against Williams avenged his quarter-final defeat at January’s BDO World Championship and sparked an England fightback from 5-2 behind to claim a 6-6 draw.

In the match against Scotland, the Dorset county ace’s empathic win over Hogarth reversed a loss in the round of 16 at the Dutch Open in February. Scotty Dog’s victory steered England to a 7-5 success against Scotland and snatched the BDO British Internationals for a third year in a row. “I had two really tough draws but managed to get the wins,” said Mitchell.

You are under a lot more pressure playing for your country than when you are playing for yourself. It is always nice when it comes good.Everyone was saying it was a captain’s job but you do not think of anything like that, you just try to get your point for the team. To play the Scots in Scotland is the most amazing game and atmosphere. On a personal note, I won player of the tournament, which was a first for me at this event.”

Mitchel shoots a great game and all you do is find faults. Anti Bdo bias there.

Thorn told the TDF: “When you think of the mushrooms who have stanned for the BDO – Rout, IFM, Big Worm – and the recent shrooms – Robson and Oche – it is pretty special to be the one above all of them."

Shitty Dog will be adding that picture to his wank collection. Next to the 50 pictures of Friesian heifers, of course.

2x 2019 Q-School Lucky Dip winner!

Both as valuable as the Lakeside piss pot!

It symbolises the BDO in 2019.

Martin Atkins, Wes Newton, and some random old codger in the background. With Scott "Bournemouth Echo" Mitchell taking centre stage. Completely oblivious to the shitshow around him.

Empathic? Is he really?

Click up the Last 32 tab to see the Last 32 of the event that not even Unterbuchner could be bothered with despite living there.

Some worrying characters still going, including BRIAN WOODS.
