Re: My Blog, more viewers than bdo darts gets, not sponsored
As much as I'd like to see more ET events, the calendar is pretty saturated as it is, and unless they become bigger (which could lessen the appeal), I don't see how they'll lessen the number of Player's Championship events. After all, they are trying to make it a more professional game where it's not just a select few who can make money out of it. I think it's largely fine how it is, we're seeing more and more players comfortable on the stage thanks to their schooling on the Euro Tour, so what if Ian White still can't bring his floor form to the TV, the PDC have aims far beyond him

To be honest I think the PDC have got the structure pretty much nailed on. The floor events are necessary for the game as qualifiers for the TV events with higher status and rewards. Those that can progress on the floor and then adapt to the higher pressure of the stage will do well. Those that can't will fall away.
There's many out there who can do it day in day out when there's no pressure, turn the pressure on and it just doesn't happen for them.

Indeed, I think 13 ET events is quite enough. It's great that you have two different routes so to speak, to really become a better player, from tour regular to a solid TV player, and from there to attack the top 16/20 in the world.
You have the ET where you get to play on stage and you can really make a name for yourself with a decent run. And the PC events which are of lesser importance, but they are more effective as you have two events imstead of one on a weekend, so you get to play more matches and more or less the same prize money on your ranking.
Also you don't have to do the qualifiers which is even tough for the best non seeds. Even some players on the fringe of being seeded, the likes of Bunting or West, won't go through the qualifiers at a much better rate than say 60%. Which I wouldn't say is unfair but as usually the same group of players are seeded, it's a bit tough on the others.
Not sure where I'm going with all this crap lol. Let's just say I agree that the calendar is close to being saturated, and the ratio of PC/ET events is quite spot on now. My focus would be on improving the secondary tours, especially the CT in the next couple of years, and of course just increase the prize money anywhere you can.

Just look at the PDC schedule and the number of empty weeks could probably be counted on the fingers of one hand. They've done it, made darts a viable option for anyone that's good enough.
