Darts misses Sid Waddell a lot. It feels ages to me since he last commentated.

Died August 2012 so last worlds would have been Adrian Lewis and Hamilton.
Wonder what he'd have made of mvg.

In his lifetime, yes, although the last World Championship commentary that he did was Adrian Lewis vs. Gary Anderson in the 2011 final. Sid was diagnosed with bowel cancer in September 2011, and only commentated at the 2012 Premier League after that. His last pre-cancer commentary was at the 2011 World Matchplay, the tournament where Hamilton beat Whitlock from miles back, and won by Phil Taylor with an 18-8 scoreline against James Wade in the final.

Sid would have made some amazing quotes about him, and the comparisons with Taylor would have been fun. He had insights about players and matches that few others did, because he looked at things somewhat out of the ordinary. As it turned out, Sid's death seemed to coincide almost exactly with the start of the Michael van Gerwen that we now know on TV. Sid lived long enough, just about, to see van Gerwen's 9-dart finish at the 2012 World Matchplay against Steve Beaton.

Sids loss compounded by mardles retirement from darts and his accession to the commentary box.
A cynic might think he seized the opportunity.

Never thought of it that way, it's possible. What is Wayne supposed to do, play in the BDO?

What former darts player is the best chap on the microphone these days...other than Paul Nicholson?

I'd like to see Manley have a go, reckon he'd be pretty decent

Did anyone ever overachieve as much as Manley?
Two world finals and was only ever a mid 90s average plodder.
His one dart fame was never really backed up either.

In the same way as Ted though?

I remember him refusing to shake Taylors hand after one of his raping, and the dust up with Lewis, but not much actually on the board.

How do you think the soon to be retired Phil Taylor would be with color commentary? Team him up with Dan Dawson maybe.

Remember Manley beating Taylor on a PL night then taking down the board and signing it. Taylor was fuming

You will also recall, that. Was the incident that caused Taylor taking his game to the next level.
Best not to pull the tigers tail.

I do indeed, Taylor post that incident was the best that's ever been seen. As close to unbeatable as could be

Think it's fair say he was coasting through 2003-2006.
Was winning but not hitting the heights.
Barneys arrival, the new darts, the Manley incident, the rest is history.

It's fair to say early post split was only Priestly and Taylor plus a load of jobbers, the title World Champion was worthless as was Lakeside champion. Picked up in the 2000's as more moved across and now is a different world top talent wise which is why there will be no repeat of Taylor's wins.

That said, and it's arguably fair, there was nothing in the bdo that would have bothered Taylor either.
